Is The Problem My Brand NEW MechMan S Series Alt?!

Recommended Posts

As some may have read or been following, I have had problems with voltage drop after new Rockford amplifiers & Fi subs install, as well as a new MechMan 170A alt offering.

Just this past week I purchased a new XS Power D3400 & redid the GNDs on my Big 3 --- went from 4awg to 1/0.

Some of the problem(s) STILL exists.

With the urging of a very educated friend, I decided to take some voltage measurement after the car had been resting after running for around an hour..

At rest, with the car NOT running, the BATT was 13.1v.

That voltage carried through the 1st breaker, & at the rear terminals the voltage was 13.0v. Same 13.0v at the amps directly.

Next, ... time to bump some music pretty good - let us say 80% of my max that I would ever bother playing it ... certainly enough that the lights have dimmed, & the volt gauge has "danced" around before.

With the Rockford T500-bdCP pounding, the BATT's lowest reading was 12.6v.

The rear terminal's lowest were 11.9v, & the lowest reading I got was obviously on the T500, & that was 11.8v.

The car was NEVER running at any time.

I was given the advice to take a very close look at my alternator.

Concur?

Your alternator is not going to supply any power with the vehicle off, so how do any of these measurements point in any way towards fault of the alternator?

I'd hit that so fucking hard whoever pulled me out would be King of England.

Lol... looks like we were on the same page. Car-B-Ques suck.

ya, tires and paint burning make the marshmallows taste funny.

With the car running, what is your voltage from alt plus to alt frame? What is your voltage at battery plus to frame? 13.1V is a good resting voltage.

wait so your dropping voltage with the car not running (alternator is not on or charging) and you think its the alt? correct me if im wrong but thats how I understood it

Yeah wth....are you trolling.

Your car is not running,,,,alternator is not turning...no turning means no charging so how the hell does that point at your alt....EVERYONE will have voltage drop just running on batteries only. When your car is running what is voltage?...alt off does NOT matter.

and whoever told you to test your alt with car off, or said its the alt when you have good resting voltage and bumping with car off is someone you SHOULD NOT listen too ever agian about audio.

Then why the fuck are you asking about voltage issues with your alt when you're not even testing with the car running?
