audio control meter vs termlab meter numbers?

Recommended Posts

Every time I was metered on the same AC with the same setup I had the same score. I would call that consistency. I know not all of them will have that same consistency and not all will measure the same. For people just doing local shows for fun as long as the Meter is consistent through out the day that is all that should really matter.

For those who are looking at trying to win nationals or set a record consistency between different meters is important.

I went to a non sanctioned event once that was using the AC mic. I was testing in the parking lot with my TermLab literally 2 minutes before the AC mic went in. The AC score was -7db from my TL.

Fuck an AC mic.

i swear i posted before i read your post...this is precisely what i am speaking of. lol

Just because its consistent to each other dpesnt mean that its consistent to all ac mics. Thats what everyone is talking about the tl being consistent. All mics are accurate to each other. Or at least supposed to be some are .1 or .2 off wtc

the other problem is most places never get them recalibrated

but yet again if the term lab has more problems like that update some people get stiffed at a show in New York while the Judge in Cali didnt upgrade his software therfor the meter is off and thats how it was here a couple months back

I was just putting it out there that for those only doing it for fun and not really going for records our points the important part is that the meter is accurate through out the show.

With that said everyone that is saying the term lab is become the standard it's because it's consistency between different termlab meters. It has a reputation for not only being consistent through out show, it is consistent from meter to meter state to state country to country.

The only thing that can truly be said about an AC vs termlab is that you can't compare the scores because not all AC will meter the same setup with the same score because of it being way to easy accidentally change the settings.

One might be a DB off of a termlab while another it's 7 DB below and the next 5 DB higher. For non sanctioned event the most important thing it's that the meter I'd consistent through out the day.

For a sanctioned event a termlab is the way ti go because it's consistent from show to show no matter the termlab used.

Hmmm ... So I wonder why it is the ONLY meter used when competing for "LEGAL" world records in all orgs ???

Do you even know what your talking about?

The termlab is the only meter used in dbdra, meca, usaci, idbl, iasca, emma because it is a consistant reading from 1 persons car to another persons car, and from one judges meter to another judge half way around the world. The audiocontrol meter cant do that! period

Ok ... Did you go to the Unified World Finals event this year in Huntsville, Alabama ???

I would have sworn that I seen with my own eyes that the B&K meter WAS used at this event (I think USACI) ...

... And I know for sure that the Audio Control was used ... Mainly for RTA

I've been SPL tested on Both (on the dash, in the kicks, and going for MECA style this year) and so far, they read really close and consistant on my truck ... Not sure what you mean by +/- 20 db ??? Sounds like a calabration fault to me if that happens ...

What are you even talking about spl tested on the dash and the kick.... Right there thats a rather large gain in that style truck in most cases, and you cant compare a kick score to a dash score, let alone if scores are done on 2 different types of meters.
Ok Brother ... Ive been competing Car Audio a long time ... and I know that you have been in the game for quite a while too ... So I think you know (or atleast you should) what I'm talking about when I said this without nitpicking every detail ... You know good and well this I meant different mic locations with multiple meters at different times (competition locations) ...

Calibration fault?

EVERY piece of test equipment (no matter what the use) should be callibrated BEFORE every use ...

This is something you learn in Basic Electronics ... Correct ???

Did you ever operate a Audio Control meter?

Yes

Bottom line the Audio Control meters are not accurate, consistent, or even reliable for spl scores like this thread is about.

like I said ... EVERY test equipment device should be callibrated regularly for accurate operation ...

This is for ANY test equipment in today's electronics world ...

If your at a competition and they are using an audiocontrol chances are its probably not a sanctioned even where your scores and points go towards your competitors career, let alone be allowed since there is such a drastic variation in scores compared to a termlab.

I know for sure that the Audio Control meter WAS used at Unified World Finals this year ...

To my knowledge ... RTA purposes only, but it was there as a piece of test equipment ...
