audiofanaticz Posted August 6, 2014 Report Posted August 6, 2014 Who puts a 4000watt rms Team Fi 15inch woofer in a 2.61 cubed box after port/sub displacement? PWK Does and in a walled vehicle that has way more room available to it.. Oh so Fi says 3-5cubed per woofer you say.. Ehh 2.6 is close enough right............
TRON Posted August 7, 2014 Report Posted August 7, 2014 All I've heard what he's slow. Whether or not his designs suck is hard to say, everyone has their own opinion. For the people saying he doesn't know his stuff, they need to do their homework, Pete is pretty knowledgeable about acoustics. Again, everyone's own opinion... But the people on SMD that bash him are no better than the people everywhere else who bash SMD. Relax, the guy loves audio just as much as we do, even though his approach is different. His designs suck, I'll post mine if you want. He doesn't know his stuff, he made some critical mistakes that even I can point out. Pete may be knowledgeable in something, but I feel he's reached a point where he's not willing to apply that knowledge for all his customers. Yes it's my opinion. I'm not bashing him to better myself. I used his services, he and his services suck balls, and whether or not he loves car audio I think people should know how bad he sucks. I for one would have saved myself from the situation I'm in if I had read anything similar to my post. Honestly I'm not one to hop on a board and bash someone. I had nothing bad to say about him until yesterday, I had been biting my lip until I had a chance to discuss things with him and ask him a few questions. But he verified all of the above. The guy is a fucking asshole. He could be the fucking Stephen Hawking of car stereo but he'd rather hold that knowledge over your head than actually apply it. I call bullshit anyway. Who calls themselves an audio engineer, designs a wall, then when the wall is complete and sounds like shit, the explanation is that the cabin space is now cut in half so it won't perform how it was drawn up. WHAT?! I won't deny that with your experience, clearly his stuff isn't worth the hassle if the end result will always be blamed on you. That's not good customer service. audiofanaticz Posted August 7, 2014 Report Posted August 7, 2014 I tried him once years ago because I kept having a problem with 1 of my 2 DD9518s. I was recommended to use him by DD themselves and that the problem was most likely something wrong with my box building. Got the design, and the box was insanely wide, so wide it wouldn't fit in my tahoe. So wide that it was wider than the exterior of my tahoe.... It took lots of back and forth with him to get him to do a new design at his cost per his mistake. Well the issue was never fixed with the box after the redesign, and later on I realized that the issue was that 1 woofer was rubbing and sometimes bottoming out while the other was fine. 1 woofer had a 4layer 9.25inch spider pack while the other woofer had a 6layer 8inch spider pack. Yup that will screw some things up.... As for the designs Im starting to think more so that people that speak highly of his designs never ventured out on their own and tried to do it on their own. So Petes designs maybe loud to them, but then again that user probably only used a crap prefab box before so thats really not anything special. Looks like I had EXCLUSIVE 90 and 45degree angles in my box as well, wonder what makes them exclusive?
Swordlordboy1234 Posted August 7, 2014 Report Posted August 7, 2014 Not defending him.. Your right. But the exclusive vs the actual wording... Exclusively... Has a big difference in meaning. One means he is the only one that uses it... The other means your box only needs 90 deg and 45deg angle. So if you can cut a 45deg and a 90deg, then by that statement you could build the box. My interpretation. audiofanaticz Posted August 7, 2014 Report Posted August 7, 2014 ummm the majority of the boxes made only use 90 degree corners.
Swordlordboy1234 Posted August 7, 2014 Report Posted August 7, 2014 ummm the majority of the boxes made only use 90 degree corners. I realize that. Maybe you misunderstood. It SOUNDED LIKE you said his exclusive angles (like he invented them) when the actual meaning was a disclaimer for people to know all they need to cut during this projects is 45's and 90's as if they couldn't figure it out. It also could be just another excuse for him to be long winded with big words to sound smart. Don't get it twisted, I came here for lulz to see him bashed, but I thought there was a fallacy in your post. Hence my correction. boom50cal Posted August 7, 2014 Report Posted August 7, 2014 hell half the fun is designing it yourself. easier to get over blaming yourself for fuck ups than blaming someone else IMO. Atleast you can learn from yourself. On 1/4/2013 at 9:31 PM, HatersGonnaHate said: Wow. 184 posts and I think you're a fucking asshole.
diegoclass2010 Posted August 7, 2014 Report Posted August 7, 2014 yea my experience was the same.. asked for a 4th order design, i pay up, dude comes up with a regular ported box... we go back and forth. Pete just says ported box is best for application and call it quits. probably wont ever pay for a design period.
