Sound is subjective if you make it subjective.

If you have the right tools you can objectively measure it to be exactly as is recorded in the studio or any other venue.

Edit: That is to say a $10K speaker is just FU money.

I find it highly doubtful that a 1200$ 250W woofer is going to be any better than a dozen similar size 100-200$ drivers (proper install and EQ implied). In fact I strongly suspect that in the hands of someone who really knows what they're doing with adequate processing power a funky pup could be made to sound the same in that type of application.

This sort of thing is designed and marketed for the type of fool that will pay 5 grand for RCA cables, or other over-priced honkey-bling and penis extensions.

It's the difference between a Chevy Malibu or a Rolls Royce Phantom. Both are cars, both have wheels, both carry people around town, but there's a certain imperiousness about owing a Rolls Royce that appeals to some people. Yes, the Rolls has way better performance and quality, but the Malibu does the same basic task as it: transportation.

My Toyota camry is perfectly adequate to get me from a to b comfortably. But when compared to a Bently, whole new level of comfort. In my camry I can set the cruise on 80 and make it up the hill. But i may have to down shift a couple times and I'm pushing 6000 Rpms to do it. So I cancel the cruise and allow it to go slower to make it up that hill. It makes it just fine. However I would love to have that Bently so that I wouldn't have to down shift. Everything would be better, except costs.

Talking about focal utopías vs some pioneers, same story. I can get the music reproduced so that it is loud enough and I can hear the music clearly with some pioneers but the response, build quality, power handling(true not just rated) and sonic accuracy will not compare to the utopias. Plus you have to pay for the elite status of owning utopias.

When you have heard a system that is good enough you can close your eyes and feel like you are in the same room as the band playing, the experience is on another level compared to a mere good ssystem. My JLs sound really good and get loud, but I have some work to do with imaging and staging. Some drivers are better at blending it all together than others. The utopias do it with little effort. My JLs may need some processing to get there.

I think some people highly over rate some subpar equipment.

Yes of course you don't need super expensive equipment, but there are some really nice drivers out there that deserve every cent you pay for.

Proves y'all don't quite get it...... The point of speakers/subs at the level is you DON'T hear the speaker. You hear the music, as it was intended to be heard. So the less you "hear the speaker" the better it is.
