In the retail side of it, you can get a bang for your buck. Will it be what you can buy yourself? Fuck no. But that's a serious budget to get a kickass system ready to bang all day. Im not to loud by any means but it seems to be an achievement in his eyes. You either want performance, or style OR both. All comes down to expectations and the ability of the builder to meet your goals given the budget you have. I can build different levels of awesome based on your budget. In defense to most shops, they can't accurately price out an spl build. It's not their thing. Definitely seems like he was charged top dollar for equipment but that's to be expected with shops . Not saying they'll all rip you off but you'll certainly pay more for products most of the time... I want to see the guys build though... When I was painting house's my boss under quoted a job by about $15,000, no wonder the home owner was so quick to say yes.When I have anything done if it's quality work and I feel I underpaid I always give the person a generous tip. That being said a lot of people's definition of "music" is a clipped 30 hz sine wave with some 80 IQ knuckle head grunting about committing crimes and his genitals.
