Triticum Agricolam Posted March 9, 2015 Report Posted March 9, 2015 This is like many things were it certainly is possible to do. The question is are the advantages of doing something like this worth the expense, complexity, and other potential drawbacks. For 99% of people the answer is going to be no, it is not worth it. However if you like to experiment and tinker it might be worth it to you. Just know it won't be easy and probably won't be cheap either. Joe X Posted March 10, 2015 Report Posted March 10, 2015 nobody designed a box yet i dont wanna ask until i get enough feed back but are you saying i could build a box that would pick up 25-55 Post a sketch of the design you have now and what's your front stage, that would be the best you can do to get the right feedback.
ALPINE408 Posted March 10, 2015 Report Posted March 10, 2015 a guy did it a while back with great success i beliee his name was techforce God I hope you are joking Your system will still play up to 80hz just not a lot of output but you don't want to be plying 55hz over 150 dbs ever trust me Have you ever had your woofers blown?

BigManAC Posted March 10, 2015 Report Posted March 10, 2015 Its all in the box, im sure there are people on here that will help you out if you just asked. My friend has just a single 18 and he had a pretty decent range. I believe it was about 28hz up to the 50's and peaked at the low 40's. 2001 Saturn L200-Sony MEX-BT4100PFRONT STAGE:- (4) Crescendo PWX 6- Cadence XA250.2SUB STAGE:-Fi Audio BL 15 (Sealed Off)-Crescendo BC2kELECTRICAL:- Singer 240A alt - XS Power D3400- SkyHigh OFC power/speaker wire- Big 3 with SkyHigh 0gaugeBuild Log: Click HereScores: 146.5db @ 29hz Outlaw
bkolfo4 Posted March 10, 2015 Report Posted March 10, 2015 Your port tuning does NOT limit you upper frequency response. A box tuned to 30 should play up to 150 if you want it to. The issue is when the box design has a big peak at tuning, then frequencies above and below tuning are not as loud. If you design the box correctly to minimize the peak, it will work fine. That being said - if you want to build 2 boxes with 2 different drivers with 2 different tunings, go for it. Probably still will not get the frequency response you are looking for. The separation between the 2 tunings will have to be just right or there will still be a larger peak (too close) or a dip (too far apart) in the response. You might also consider multiple midbass with the correct crossover setup to get more output in the higher bass frequencies.
