LsChevy Posted March 18, 2015 Report Posted March 18, 2015 What are you guys thoughts on running an odd number of subs in a setup? I have the space to run a fourth order for two 15's or ported for three
hdorre Posted March 18, 2015 Report Posted March 18, 2015 I believe that subs are like tits, and come in pairs... but thats just my aesthetic taste. 3 15s should get down. Joe X Posted March 18, 2015 Report Posted March 18, 2015 Odd number of subs lead to impedance matching issues unless you have a "constant power" amp.
Kyblack76 Posted March 18, 2015 Report Posted March 18, 2015 meh... impedance will dance around anyway...... Not like if your wire to one ohm, you stay there..... Do it.... there is no harm... SMD SUPER SELLER The Burban Build Blazer Build sold Acura trunk build sold
CstrokerV Posted March 18, 2015 Report Posted March 18, 2015 and if he get 3 dual 1.4 or whatever it is it will be close to one ohms anyways my build http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/142505-small-build-log-4-dc-lvl3-10s-tl-update-link-to-rebuild/ http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/154258-rebuild-6-lvl3-12s-update-small-video-nothing-spectacular/ new build http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/188181-03-trailblazer-slow-build-8-dc-lvl3-12-m1-motor-m2-parts/
LsChevy Posted March 19, 2015 Author Report Posted March 19, 2015 The final ohm load is what I was afraid of..that's why I had the 4th as an option to substitute for the third sub
rockFord_Expedition Posted March 19, 2015 Report Posted March 19, 2015 Bandpass enclosures are tricky to get just right. Ported is the way to go for the majority of situations. If you are like most and don't have the time, patience, and money to build and rebuild and rebuild until its just right, go ported. Both are 4th orders by the way, but I get what youre saying. As far as the odd number of subs, it's fine. Impedance is nominal anyways. Old School/New School RF Build March 2015 SOTM Winner How to crimp large wire
Triticum Agricolam Posted March 19, 2015 Report Posted March 19, 2015 I agree with rockford. Three subs at 1.33 ohms final load should be a little more efficient than two subs at 1 ohm final load when wired to the same amp. If you are looking to get as loud as possible, 99% of the time a ported box is going to do that better than a bandpass box will.
