Head unit powered component set help

One of the guys on my ship wants a component set for the front of his 2005 Tacoma, and a coaxial set for the rear. 6.5 mids. He doesn't want to run an amplifier for it though, I'll try to talk him into it though. But to meet his wants, is there a component set that can be powered by HU only (including passive crossovers) and still have decent output? A brand that sells coaxials as well for matching brands please. He doesn't want to spend more than $150 for both components and coaxials. He made that firm. It's just a daily so he's not running his EVO VIII all the time. Thanks for any help. Should be all the info you need, but if you need more, let me know. He hasn't chosen a HU yet, but it'll be an alpine.

$150 total for both sets?

And even a small budget amp would really help them a lot.

That being said a lot of people's definition of "music" is a clipped 30 hz sine wave with some 80 IQ knuckle head grunting about committing crimes and his genitals.

Talked to him some more, he really doesn't want to put an amp in, so I convinced him to just go with coaxials all around to avoid the crossover eating up all of the HU power and not getting much out of the components themselves. But thanks though. Sorry for the short and sweet thread. Appreciate the suggestions.

Money is in no way his issue haha. He just doesn't give a shit about the speakers. Hence why it was so easy to convince him to drop the component idea. E-6 with 12 years in, plus his 6 year sea pay and BAH, he doesn't need to save any for speakers, just doesn't want to waste it on the truck being a daily

I understand what your saying, so as a friend i would suggest not even upgrading. Especially if he doesnt give a shit.

  • 3 weeks later...

I know this is a bit old.... but I'm on a super tight budget ATM, and I really want some decent mids/highs, at least for the front doors.

I was looking at Rockford Fosgate R165X3... 6.5" and just running off the deck until I can get what I want. Amazon has them right now @ 37.22/pair shipped.

I have a 2004 Trailblazer LS (Non-Bose Model). Just something up front that isn't stock, and could do measly watts until I get a 4 channel or whatever I can think of later. Seems like my ideas are always changing and I have a million ideas written down.

I have a lot of health issues, so when I mean budget... it's like speakers or bills here, haha.

And this, this is like my little window to the world, and every minute's a different show. Now I may not understand it. I may not even necessarily agree with it. But I'll tell you what, I accept it and just sort of glide along. You want to keep things on an even keel, I guess is what I'm saying. You want to go with the flow. The sea refuses no river. The idea is to remain in a state of constant departure while always arriving. It saves on introductions and goodbyes. The ride does not require an explanation - just occupants. That's where you guys come in. It's like you come onto this planet with a crayon box. Now you may get the eight-pack, you may get the sixteen-pack, but it's all in what you do with the crayons, the colors, that you're given. And don't worry about drawing within the lines or coloring outside the lines. I say color outside the lines, you know what I mean? Color right off the page. Don't box me in!
