Wasteland_Audio Posted October 7, 2015 Report Posted October 7, 2015 I'll be installing a Mechman 370 amp alt soon and I was wondering how I should wire it. Should I run the positive to the under hood battery and then from there run it to the batts in the back, or should I run separate positives to both the under hood batt and the rear batts?
graham0599 Posted October 7, 2015 Report Posted October 7, 2015 Personally I'd use all the factory wire, a 1/0ga from alt to front batt, and a 1/0ga from alt to back batt My 350z build- http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/174424-2008-350z-build/page-2?hl=%2B350z+%2Bbuild#entry2605678

knowledge Posted October 7, 2015 Report Posted October 7, 2015 you can run it either way REFF'SMy linkEBAYhttp://feedback.ebay...ck&myworld=trueI love car audio so much because I will never be done. I can never win, and I will never get it finished or perfect. It always has me coming back for more, I can never get my fill of it, but I get what I need.
Wasteland_Audio Posted October 7, 2015 Author Report Posted October 7, 2015 I'd like to run the amps as isolated from the front electrical system as possible so I think I'll just run a separate line to the rear batteries. Thanks for the help guys.
MrSkippyJ Posted October 7, 2015 Report Posted October 7, 2015 that won't isolate it at all, just so you know. F150: Stock 2019 Harley Road Glide: Amp: TM400Xad - 4 channel 400 watt Processor: DSR1 Fairing (Front) 6.5s -MMats PA601cx Lid (Rear) 6x9s - TMS69
reedal Posted October 7, 2015 Report Posted October 7, 2015 ^^ what mr skippy said. All it does is parallel the circuit exactly as it would if you ran it alt>front batt>rear batt. The only way to isolate it would be to have one alt designated for the front batt for the car, and one alt designated for system only, not with just a single alternator. Why, out of curiosity, do you want to have it isolated from the front? Wasteland_Audio Posted October 8, 2015 Author Report Posted October 8, 2015 Oh... didn't think of that lol, but I would like it to be isolated so it keeps the high load off the stock electrical. I had a Chevy Colorado with a fairly big system and the stock electrical didn't like it at all, set it on fire once actually.
MrSkippyJ Posted October 8, 2015 Report Posted October 8, 2015 If you are using the stock alternator to run the system then you can't keep the load off the stock charging system no matter how you hook it up. what exactly caught on fire in your Colorado?
