Kyle13130 Posted February 2, 2016 Report Posted February 2, 2016 Hey guys I've been thinking about getting a SoundQubed HDC3 18" and want to know more about aero ports. I asked soundqubed and they recommended to go with either 2 6" aero ports or 1 8" aero port. I've only had slot ports in the past and have never heard an aero port enclosure. I've read you can get away with less port area and that you want 1 port instead of 2,3,4,etc.. I'm not sure on what the box will be but I think it will be around 6 cubic feet and 28-32hz tuning (daily listening). Should I go with 1 8" port or 2 6" ports? Other than screwing the port down to the outside of the box how should I secure the port inside the box? Lastly how do aero ports sound different when compared to slot ports? Which is better for what application? Thanks for any help!
ChevyBoy95 Posted February 2, 2016 Report Posted February 2, 2016 I personally would do 2 6" ports, generally soundqubed subs like bigger ports and 2 6" would be bigger that 1 8" but just just a little. (~50sqin vs. ~56sqin). Also, generally on the meter if you compete, 1 aero is usually louder than 2 if both have the same port area. For daily, you could go with either, wont make a noticeable difference IMO. Kyle13130 Posted February 2, 2016 Author Report Posted February 2, 2016 How much power are you going to run and what size box? It will be ran off a Crescendo Audio S1500.1. For the box I was thinking between 6.0 - 6.5 Cubic feet @28-32Hz.
Joe X Posted February 2, 2016 Report Posted February 2, 2016 The 6" ports you can get from PPI will have properly designed flares and you have a little more port area than the single 8 pipe, if don't have a strong preference for either option I would recommend the couple of PPI 6s, if you strongly prefer a single 8, consider a variable tuning psychoport: http://www.psychoport.com/

fecupe2001 Posted February 4, 2016 Report Posted February 4, 2016 Its a pretty similar sub to a dd 3518, ive tested that sub on small and big power and no matter what i do, seems to love 3 6" aeros, i built 2 weeks ago a 7 c/f and 3 6" aeros box for a 3518 on a stetsom 2k5 wired at 1 ohm, car does 147 at 38 hz wich is not bad at all on small power i guess, i have pics of the box if you want but is not pretty at all lol I´m the SPL Gains topic creator!! wanna get louder?? check this: SPL Gains.
