AcIdBuRn02ZTS
Hey guys... So.. new amp in.. (Hifonics BRX3016)... gains set with DD-1 and checked multiple times. On some songs, when playing full tilt for ~1-2minutes, I can smell the drivers getting hot. Dust caps get warm to the touch. Typically this is a sign of clipping however everything was set using the DD-1 and has been checked several times. The amp is rated at 3k (drivers are rated for 1k each) however with impedance rise, I'm only seeing 1700-2k out of the amplifier. Whats the deal? What am I overlooking? Should I back the amp off a bit more even though the DD-1 is showing a clean signal? Its only happened on one song thus far (I need dubs - Master P) which hits really low and hard. Drivers are moving a good bit. Perhaps its a boosted version? Thanks for the input. 03' Black Z71 Tahoe 3" Lift / 315/70/R17 Goodyear Duratracs Eclipse AVN6620 Touchscreen Head Unit Hifonics BRX3016 - 3krms @ 1ohm 2 RE Auido SX 18s - 14.5^3ft net @ 30hz w/ 200^2in. port120hp Cummins 4bta Swap
ALPINE408
some songs are recorded clipped nothing a DD-1 can do with a messed up source signal Have you ever had your woofers blown?
Smoove
DD-1 is a distortion detector. What track did you set the gain with? And if your playing bass boosted track that aren't clean you'll still see clipping. 2 Team Fi 15's v1 2 DD M5's 970amps of Alt 6th order blowthroughThe truck Blowthrough build : http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/155555-smooves-1996-chevy-ext-cab-c1500-slow-build/The 350z build : http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/170694-smooves-2003-nissan-350z/ My FB page https://www.facebook.com/pages/Smooves-Car-Audio-and-performance/719746144805343 Team Fi Audio http://www.ficaraudio.com/
AcIdBuRn02ZTS
I dont recall if this track is boosted or not, was just an idea. As far as I know, its isn't. I set the amplifier on track 5 (40hz - 10db) According to the manual, track 5 is a compromise between sound quality and output. 03' Black Z71 Tahoe 3" Lift / 315/70/R17 Goodyear Duratracs Eclipse AVN6620 Touchscreen Head Unit Hifonics BRX3016 - 3krms @ 1ohm 2 RE Auido SX 18s - 14.5^3ft net @ 30hz w/ 200^2in. port120hp Cummins 4bta Swap
ALPINE408
even from the studio non boosted tracks can be clipped....... depends on the quality of the recording Being that it is master P i would not put to much trust into the recording of the track Have you ever had your woofers blown? AcIdBuRn02ZTS
I suppose I'll just keep an eye on it for the time being then. Just wanted to make sure I didn't overlook something. 03' Black Z71 Tahoe 3" Lift / 315/70/R17 Goodyear Duratracs Eclipse AVN6620 Touchscreen Head Unit Hifonics BRX3016 - 3krms @ 1ohm 2 RE Auido SX 18s - 14.5^3ft net @ 30hz w/ 200^2in. port120hp Cummins 4bta Swap
ShadeTreeMechanic
You are kicking its butt. You set your subs up with track 5. This is your sub woofers signal reference. Different sources can be different levels and even different songs from the same source can be different. It all depends on how it was recorded. This just gets you in the proper range. It is up to the user to correctly use the volume control. I wish Steve would make a dash mount DD-1 so we could see what we are doing all the time. 91 C350 Centurion conversion ( Four Door One Ton Bronco) 250A Alternator (Second Alternator Coming Soon) G65 AGM Up Front / Two G31 AGM in Back Pioneer 80PRS CT Sounds AT125.2 / CT Sounds 6.5 Strato Pro component Front Stage CT Sounds AT125.2 / Lanzar Pro 8" coax w/compression horn tweeter Rear Fill FSD 5000D 1/2 ohm (SoundQubed 7k Coming Soon) Two HDS315 Four Qubes Each 34hz (Two HDC3.118 and New Box Coming Soon)
magillaru
My money is on clipped source if all other variables are cleared. Play a track you know that's not clipped (anything decaf or got160s for example), lean on it, and see if they still get warm. If they do, something else is going on. RooTxBeeR
Was this the first time you powered the subs up? And did they only get warm? Just warm? Not hot?
