They didn't lean on them hard or anything, driving them as if they were corollas aside from the occasional skid pad day. Every one of their gearboxes exploded at one point or another, and swapping spark plugs is impossible if you aren't a 12 year old Taiwanese girl. When you drive them in a way that preserves them you end up with the same driving experience as a base civic, not to mention that unless you buy a new WRX you're buying an engine that Subaru was too cheap to replace or improve for 20 years.
