Gonna build something for a friend, Only has a ski hole in a buick park avenue. Trying to decide to either go 4th through the ski hole or just ported in the trunk somewhere. Vote your choice!

Ported in the trunk will end up simulating a leaky 6th when the ski hole is open, right? 

EDIT: I used to have a sealed box in my Acura CL, which only had a ski hole.  That same box in a car with the back seat down didnt perform like it did in my Acura.  I believe I had a leaky 4th order in that car.

I have a ported, rear-firing enclosure in my trunk. Sounds decent enough at low to mid level volumes but at high levels you get to that point where you hear lot of rattles.

I have put close to 80 square feet of Damplifier Pro in the trunk/lid and even lined the deck with Damplifier Pro and Luxury Liner and it still rattles.

Hindsight being 20/20, I would have done a 4th order blowthrough and avoided that mess all together.

Same Here. ^ Turning enclosure around and firing into the cab was my solution. And if seat have to be up i just turn the subs off since i have P3 8's in my kick panels. But not all vehicles are the same. Wife's Malibu is a T1 12 rear firing sub on 1k and it sounds really good in the trunk with minimal rattles & deadening. So vehicle and power make a difference.

I've had good luck with all three types (isolated trunk cabin firing,ported ski hole & regular 4th out the trunk) generally they will act differenly from one another you'll need to find out whats best for you. A regular ported out the trunk can get pretty loud but you'll have major ass rattle no matter how much deadener you use. The other two options will cut down on rattling big time but you'll need to see which one you like better, you might lack some output with the windows up though.

How about a "T" line ski hole? Wish I had a ski hole to try out.

doubt he want to use a lot of room up. Just want a small build thats loud and clear. nothing crazy. Gonna go with a 500 watt 10 probably and run the door speakers off headunit power,. or a very small amp.

Maybe an IB 10 in the ski hole? Or a pair of 10s IB. Not subwoofers but maybe woofers so the sensitivity will be up.

Edit: or maybe even a ported IB.
