L5hunter
A while back, I posted a thread about ways to use an amp with a maximum of 2 volts gain amp with a modern 4v head unit. It occurred to me today that I could simply use one of the most basic electronic circuits ever: two resistors in series to drop the 4v RCA preout to a 2v one. Would this work in practice? I can't think of a reason it wouldn't, but I figured I'd ask anyway. The process I would use is detailed here: http://www.learningaboutelectronics.com/Articles/How-to-reduce-voltage-with-resistors.php Current "budget" setup Car: 2001 Ford Focus ZX3 bone stock other than some pimpin wheels. ShadeTreeMechanic
You could use resistors, but you could also not turn the volume up so much. Chances are that the 4v head unit doesn't actually put out 4v. 91 C350 Centurion conversion ( Four Door One Ton Bronco) 250A Alternator (Second Alternator Coming Soon) G65 AGM Up Front / Two G31 AGM in Back Pioneer 80PRS CT Sounds AT125.2 / CT Sounds 6.5 Strato Pro component Front Stage CT Sounds AT125.2 / Lanzar Pro 8" coax w/compression horn tweeter Rear Fill FSD 5000D 1/2 ohm (SoundQubed 7k Coming Soon) Two HDS315 Four Qubes Each 34hz (Two HDC3.118 and New Box Coming Soon)
Ahmed Johnson
Just don't turn up the gain. Have you checked the voltage coming out of your RCA'S to know what the voltage is?

Chances are that the 4v head unit doesn't actually put out 4v. This was the consensus the last time I asked as well. Unfortunately, that would mean if I had another normal 4v amp, the volumes wouldn't match unless I changed the gain in that one to 2v as well. Plus, It would be kind of dumb to only be able to turn up my stereo a little past half. 5 hours ago, Ahmed Johnson said: Just don't turn up the gain. Have you checked the voltage coming out of your RCA'S to know what the voltage is? Nope, this is all in theory at this point. I'll probably be quite surprised, I'm sure the combination of an output slightly under 4V and some long RCAs would bring it down to a manageable amount. MrSkippyJ
Just find out where your headunit puts out 2v and make that your max volume setting. You find where you head unit hits 2V, set your gain there (new max volume). And then if you get a amp that has gain down to 4v, all you would have is the gain higher than normal and you would be good to go. You are way overthinking this.
