ALPINE408
The only thing that happens with a huge port is give you a way high tunning freq. 60hz and up if you try to play lows it will blow your subs I had a box for 2 10's port was so big I could stick my head and shoulders in the box and wire the subs at 66hz the freq. Of my truck I burbed a 147 with some earthquake subs Edited May 11, 2009 by Team Bassick (ALPINE) Quote Have you ever had your woofers blown? Gotloud555
I know if your port is too small you get port noise. What happens if its too big? Depend how big? I like big port because it give you hair trick and air movement.
Ben Building
It doesn't matter how BIG the port is, as long as it's tuned to the same frequency. A huge port will need to be longer in order to keep the same tuning. I really believe that big ports can be more efficient, but you end up gobbling up your enclosure space pretty quickly when you start opening the port. In car audio, it's all about Compromise. grizzleyadams69
what would be considered too big of a port? would it just be based on area per cube or is there a point that it gets too big, no matter how big the box is?
aznboi3644
I used to have 112.5 sq inch of port for 4.3 cu ft for a single 15. Thats over 26 sq in per cube. Played lows just fine even with 40Hz tuning. Bigger port means more power handling around tuning.
