E a r t h Posted January 12, 2010 Report Posted January 12, 2010 nominal is what people should worry about when determining the proper load to amplifiers. ie d1,d2,d4,s4,s8 etc etc dcr is what you see with the DMM and came about from the competition scene. normal people with everyday daily setups should just worry about nominal loads, because that's all you need to worry about. since there are alot of competitors on here, dcr is used openly and it has been confusing for alot of people.

Because we have 100 thousand coils hanging around and we run 2 shifts... If you do not write on the coils what they are and what not then they do not get set up properly..and things get lost. All of our D1 coils are .75's and the D2's are 1.4's...we do have some OEM clients that have different coils then that that are true dual 1's and true dual 2's...but that's mainly because the amplifiers suck and can't handle the little less DCR. Because when you measure, you are measuring DC resistance. That is not the same thing as AC impedance. The voice coil has in inductance, so when AC is applied, the "resistance" is not the same as the DC resistance. When you are playing music on the coil, the amp will see an impedance, not DC resistance. Brian Thanks for clearing that up, I've also been wondering why all my coils read 1.4 ohm on the DMM, but i suppose thats normal with dual 1 subs, right?
