It's hard to find prices on fully built AR's since almost everyone is out of stock. But the few prices I've seen the .308 was just under 2k which IS pricey for me! Do you think building it would save much cash or will it still be almost that amount? I'd like to be able to shoot it at the range frequently, self defense and also be able to hunt deer. I'd like to build a .308 AR so that it will be a bigger caliber for hunting. The .223 I've read can do the job but still a little small for bigger deer. I'm willin to buy separate uppers and lowers but idk if I can handle buying the stripped pieces yet. The shotty is obviously much cheaper all the way around. Probably won't be as fun to shoot but will do the job. What you guys think? Whoever told you .223 is a little small for bigger deer is full of shit. I dropped a huge Wisconsin whitetail with .223 a few years ago. He didn't make it more than 20 yards from where I shot him. I doubt I will be shooting anything farther than 75-100yds if that. People on another gun forum said it was unethical to shoot with a .223 because it may not be a quick kill.
