unless i'm wrong we are all going in different directions according to SMD this is correct way to set up All connection and using the SMD disc as per instruction manual 1 - DD1plus connected to output of Amp turn up headunit until distortion light comes on OK but normally it would be a stereo 2 channel or 4 channel amp So you now have distortion point say 29 of 35 from headunit Now according to Rockford who SMD support you should add 10% of overlap to the amp this definitely helps with the power output of the amp and normally that is setup down But in my setup i have used 2 amps so 1 for Left channel 1 for right channel so i now repeat the procedure above only problem on this amp DD1plus shows distortion at 32 of 35 if i now add 10% overlap this amp will be much louder than the other because put simply the gain is turned up this is why i think the correct thing to do here is use the CC1 to match the outputs

Thanks everyone for ideas Im english and i like to really understand what Im doing for times like this over here in England there is a lot of BS spoken This system is small by USA standards but massive by English this the system Headunit Alpine Double Din Front Drivers door 2 x Blam 6.5 mid Bass 2 x Blam 3" mids Front Passenger Door 2 x Blam 6.52 mid Bass 2 x Blam 3" mids Windscreen pillars Custom builds 1 x Blam 2" tweeter 1 x Blam 3" mid Front Passenger Footwell 10" Diamond Subwoofer Rear Drivers Door 2 x Blam 6.5" mid Bass Passenger Rear Door 2 x Blam 6.5" mid Bass Rear most pillars x2 Custom Builds 2 x Blam 2" Tweeters 2 x Blam 3" mids Boot Area 2 x Kicker 15" Subwoofers Amps 3 x Blam 1100 watt RMS x 1 ohm for Subwoofers 3 x Blam 4 Channel amps 150 RMS @ 3 ohm load the Alpine headunit on RCAs outputed more on 1 channel so with measurement taken at Blam Amplifier speaker terminal with amp gains on minimum and flat undistorted Lh 29 (7.6 volts) Rh 32 (8.8 volts) this difference was enough to make Rh channel noticeably louder that was my problem From what i worked out and tell me if i'm wrong the DD1 plus calculates overlap from the confirmed distortion point your saying SO What this is where i caused myself a problem I bridged 2 Amps to the front doors so 1 amp became left side 1 became right This is what made the imbalance in the Alpine Headunit a problem Solution CC1 synced everything to spot on balance thanks again

First make sure both amps gains are turned all the way down, crossovers on the amp(s) and radio all set to fullpass, and any eq set to flat if your testing output of the headunit through the amp! Otherwise you will have mixed output voltages. In your case, I would test the ends of the RCAs for the max volume of the headunit using 0db tone (40hz for subs, 1khz for mids/high). Plug your rca cables in again, then set the gains of those 2 amps at -5 or -10db (40hz for subs, 1khz for mids/high). If one of those 2 amps is still putting out more voltage than the other goto your amp that is putting out less power, take your cc-1 and calibrate it to that amp, than move your cc-1 over to the louder amp and adjust the gain down until it is shown good on the cc-1. You should then be good to go with both amps putting out the same power.

I think overlap is something different. Gain matching is matching the amplifiers outputs so they play at the same level with a volt meter.

Dont you only need to find the volume distortion of the headunit? Not the amps volume distortion. Find where the headunit outputs distorts ( amps not part of this step, you can disconect amps), use 40hz test tone to find what volume that distorts, then do the same with a 1000hz test tone. Use the lower distortion point of both, example:40hz clips at 31volume and 1000hz clips at 33volume, that means 30volume is the highest u can go without clipping, if u turn it to 31 your headunits signal clips. So now u can set ur amp gains. Turn headunit to 30, turn amp gains all the way down. Play the tones again and set it right before clipping. I think thats how it goes.
