  2. How much are the drivers moving? There's kind of a sweet spot. Box too restrictive and they won't move enough to cool. Too much and the coils will hop out of the gap and lose the inductive feedback - dropping the impedance and turning into a heater Clipping would cause it too. Signals are compounded. Just because the amp's clipping light isn't coming on doesn't mean the input signal isn't clipped - worth a check as well And I also don't want to discount a wonky signal either. To this day, I'm not sure what causes it, but something in my setup was feeding I think either a hard DC offset on my signal, or an ultra high frequency interference to my sub and it would go from room temperature to stinky coil in seconds even at low volume. It was the strangest thing.... My point is: Don't rule out a weird signal or a bad component either.
  3. Pretty good wire level calibration on that unit, honestly I'll admit I'm out of my wheelhouse when it comes to being able to check and diagnose batteries with those tools. I might be a bit of a caveman on that front
  4. Water intrusion is far from ideal, but realistically - these cells are sealed. I doubt the guts got wet. I'd be taking a wire brush to the threads and contact then running a tap and die set down the threads to clean everything up. Then check the capacity of each cell individually. Charge them up to 2.8v then discharge down to 1.5v. You can get load testers off amazon. I don't have any suggestions on which one to get, I only know they exist. Note the capacity, check for any outliers, and go from there. You might also try calling around some auto shops and see if they have a load tester (big wheel cart thing with a heat sink on it that'll put 2-300 amp draw on stuff) to check full pack voltage sag. You can go around with a multi meter and check the sag of each cell while under load and see if there are any weak cells there. Shoot, you could even back-math the internal resistance if you know the starting voltage of a cell, sag voltage, and how much current the load tester is putting on the pack. I'm a little cagey about putting too much stock in handheld probe-based impedance testers, especially with the corrosion on the threads. When you're working with impedance that low, even things like surface humidity are going to cause some pretty wild swings in readings. For giggles... What do you get if you touch the probes together and tell the meter to read itself?

It reminds me of high speed ethernet cables, or other shielded cables, where the out loom can be grounded to help shield against RF interference. Hard to tell from the video, but the sheathing looks a bit light in the loafers to be for abrasion resistance, so I'm thinking it's for that RF shielding

  11. RIP my bike. Got ran over by a box truck (I'm fine). Just shy of 12k miles on it And her replacement: If any y'all go through this, and I hope you never do: Get a police report. Insurance won't do jack without it. And save every single receipt. They'll ask for them. Get your bike inspected by an independent shop to establish damages, because they *will* short change you otherwise. And hold onto the thing. Don't fiddle with it. They sent an appraiser out as well.
