I've had none smoged friendly cars before and rather not go through the hassle I'm almost posative if thr motor you're swapping to is newer you're fine. That being said a lot of people's definition of "music" is a clipped 30 hz sine wave with some 80 IQ knuckle head grunting about committing crimes and his genitals. The engine also had to be offered as an option for the vehicle it's going in. California also went hard on engine swaps. Aftermarket alternator meant aftermarket engine parts to them.
