That IS the situation. This is not the first time this has happened in this area. The people outside the city don't pay a dime to the fire department. That is why they are given the option to pay the 75 bucks for protection. They knew the risk and decided to roll the dice...they lost. It is a shame that they lost their house but they knew the deal. The fire dept showed up and made sure nobody was in danger and stayed to make sure the fire didn't spread. That is all they are PERMITTED to do. I am sure that most if not all of them wanted to put out the fire but they actually are not allowed to do that. Still doesn't take away from the fact the priorities are in the wrong areas. The insurance companies also play a part here. (If) you have insurance, they could pay this fee for you. This is a yearly recurring fee and what if you paid this for 10 years and one year you lost your job and cannot afford, then your house catches fire? Do they stand by and watch it burn? Two things here: People should vote on this (if they haven't) and instead of not putting the fire out, do your job and then put a lien on the property. This way, it covers for them not paying, allows you to still make your money, and the people may still recovers some stuff. It isn't the house or land that matters, but the personal belongings inside the house. Again, too many this or thats, but I find it odd these guys could just stand buy and watch. Blown

Actually, it is a city fire dept and they are funded via taxes. It says in the video, people inside the city pay nothing, while people outside have to pay $75. They city fire dept is therefore funded and so is the county for that matter, meaning they are underfunded to maintain so they charge others to help fund the city's fire dept and this is wrong. If you are going to charge someone, then you charge EVERYONE. I bet if it was the Mayor's house and he didn't pay, they would put the fire out..or any other official for that matter. No that is not how a township works (this is a TWP, they aren't in the city, when you hear TWP it is NOT part of the city). They pay DIRT CHEAP TAXES... Why? Because they don't have fire, police, or whatever else. Your taxes pay for snow removal (if not county roads), garbage, water, and sewer. Most TWPs tax their citizens and then pay the nearest city to provide those services, but not all do. The ones that do not require you to pay, if you don't you aren't covered. School tax local tax property tax state taxes county taxes. Id kill if one of those was only 75 bucks. Not yet, but I've seen what bs taxes are tacked on. I just completely disagree with the fire departments services being one of those extra fees. Like I said in the first page, imagine if the other departments followed suit. Police department - oh you're about to get murdered? Did you pay your feel?....No? Ooooh you better run really fast cuz we can't do our job and go protect you. Paramedics - you just got ran over and have internal bleeding? Did you pay your fee....no? Ooooh I think the closest ER is about 10 miles away, try to hitch a ride there and hopefully you paid them their fee. That wouldn't make sense now would it? You have no Idea what you are talking about...when you live in a city or county, you pay city or county taxes...and those taxes pay those city or county police/paramedics/fire...in other words, you are paying a fee for their services. The issue in this whole controversy is the fact that this particular county had no fire dept, b/c the county couldn't afford it. So the city fire dept, being nice, said "Hey, we will offer our services to people outside city limits, as long as they can help fund us by paying $75/year." In all reality, the $75/year is probably less than what the people in city limits are paying for the fire dept. So all in all, it is not the city fire dept's job to control fire's outside of their jurisdiction. So that being said, these people got what they asked for. Yes it sux, and if they were in my neighborhood, i'd give them the clothes off of my back...but they even admitted that not only was this not the first time it had happened in there community, but they were aware of the fee and took that chance. They lost.

Its fucked up to have a supervisor tell you that you can't help someone, but goddamnit i swear i would treat everyone the same...i wouldn't give a fuck who they are. If Obamama didn't pay his fee, i'd let the fucking white house burn down.
