SnowDrifter
http://gizmodo.com/5937556/recording-industry-succeeds-in-ruining-a-kids-life-over-31-stupid-songs Seems excessive and not a proportional punishment to the crime committed. Even if you are simply talking about losses: there is no way this cost the recording industry $22,000 per song. So it's not even like they are charging him for their losses and nothing else. I would speculate if he were to try and steal a few albums from the store: he would get a slap on the wrist / small misdemeanor charge or something. But over a half million dollars for what is 2-3 CDs worth is just screwed up. Apparently pirating $30 worth of music is enough to send you into a debt you will have for a large part / all of your life... I understand that the industry wants to create a stand against piracy, but to this extent seems unwarranted and completely blown out of proportion. TylerParrish
Good to know pirating music can ruin your life more than being caught as a drug dealer can.....and that is why the judiciary system is bull shit. Maxim
The reason this happens to people is that they're the uploaders of songs, not the downloaders. In the industry's eyes and the laws eyes this isn't some guy stealing 3 CD's from his local record store. This is some guy taking those CD's, burning millions of copies, and handing them out on the street. Do I think they're within their right to fine him? Yes. Do I think the fine is absurdly high? Definitely yes. wtf is lolcats? I'd def get a fat hooker if i had to resort to that kinda thing. I feel like they'd be grateful and work harder. Also its more bang for my buck, more real estate for my dollar if you catch my drift. its like the Costco of streetwalkers. I was hoping for 150 .
