And just because you couldn't handle a beer at 18, and maintain responsibilities, don't mean there was those of us that were married at that time, with job and house. Woulda been nice to have come home, and responsibly consume. Like purchase of smokes here. A 18 year old can smoke, but not purchase..... In short, it's probably not a good idea.... BEEMDUB Posted October 4, 2012 Report Posted October 4, 2012 basically n8 already said the exact reason as why it has to be 21....Most seniors in high school are 18 and some point...that means theres 18 year olds that go to school with kids as young as 14, who are of course going to have the seniors buy for them...then the 14 -17 year olds are gonna get fake ids saying their 18s and now you have kids who are younger than 14 asking the 14> year olds to get them liq with their fakes.

This is totally an opinion that I have no facts to back up. From my experience, drinking is Europe is way more casual, way less people getting flat out drunk, it's just not the thing to do there. Here, the culture is drink until you can't function. It seems for that reason you have to legislate the age to restrict the stupidity that goes with being drunk. If we could change our culture to one that is casual, you could make stronger arguments for lowering the age limit.
