NOOBIEST thing you have done with car audio stuff

I'm pretty sure I'm the only one that's done this but I picked up a 15 inch titanium eclipse sub with a wayyyyy too small box (and sealed at that) at a pawn shop. I think I payed like 35 altogether. so anyways I didn't know about svc and dvc subs and I proceeded to hook it up to an OLD 150w x2 jensen to the leads coming out in the terminal cup. It was alright but I felt it wasn't nearly enough bump so then I open up the box and I see its FILLED with polyfill and the sub has 4 inputs. I take out the polyfill and I hook BOTH positives AND negatives to their spots.

I go to turn it on and it fucking wrecked for like three and a half seconds.. turned out that caused the glue holding the fucking motor on just melted EVERYWHERE. All over the back of the sub, in the box underneath the sub. I was mad as fuck because this happened within an hour of buying it. Man, I had no clue what I really had back then.

Yea never did somthing like that. How ever i had two 12s rockford p1s svc 4 ohm hocked up to a 900 punch down wired to 2 ohms. Back then i did not know what ohms even was so i went on ebay and got another 900 punch just like the one i had so i could have two the same amps and twice the power. So then i wired them seprate and that was 4 ohms on each. After i got done i was so happy and ready to hear how much loader it was going to be. I had my Amp gain all the way up ready to kill it but wen i bumped it. It was not loader and i did not get it so i called a aduio shop and they explaind to me what ohms were and how i just wasted 120$ FML lol that is how we learn right to bad it cost to learn lol.

Earlier this year when I first got my wall in I wasn't getting any signal out of my amp. I spent a good 2 hours checking the remote, RCA'S, fuses, pulled the subs to make sure they were wired up right and it turned out I accidentally had it switched to the slave setting instead of master.

I planned my first build. I was using a 175.4 and 2 component sets. So I got one door panel done and was in a hurry to get the speakers in. So I used one crossover and hooked up 2 6.5's and 2 tweets to the one. Then I proceeded to send 250 watts through it. A couple minutes of playing and then I could smell some burning. The crossover was fried. No one ever told me the had power ratings haha. I learned that lesson

the same as some of you , i was 13 when i started to do my own installs i learn how to install amps,subs(with out knowing about ohms ..lol),speakers all the normal stuff. wire with 10 gauge power and 10 gauge ground to my seat screw ,remote was in the kit so i used that one ,some 18 gauge for my subs and a crappy water damage box. i learn how to do all that thanks to my master ,one stupid guy with his own shop but a that time i didnt even know what the price was so i ask him about the price and i said "that i only have $700 mexican pesos about $55 bux " and he just look at me and said" yes thats what im gonna need to install everything" fucking asshole ....lol i watched how he install everything that day and thats how i learned to install for the first time.

I've done all kinds of noobish things through out the years.

Switched pos and neg on an amp

ran 2 12s off a HU

did many installs with the batt connected

set screws for gounds

the most recent is I mixed up the sub sonic and the low pass filters so I filtered out all sound thought the amp was DOA.

This happened today... Disconnected everything and moved box to spray foam in the body panels. Put everything back together pretty quick, and went to leave house. I was getting no subs, but amp was lit up. Took me a min of looking at the voltage gauge that read "88" to figure out what was wrong...

I had forgotten to reset my circuit breakers, so the only thing that was getting voltage was the remote wire and lighting up the amp....

In high school, I used to cut stock headunit wires and just pigtail and electrical tape new headunit wires lol. I've learned use proper harnesess and to solder anything I do now and make it nice and clean with heat shrink.
