Skullz
I don't use a meter when setting the mids gain, i set the h/u unit to almost max level and adjust the gain till it starts distorting and then back off a tad. It really helps to use a very good quality track when setting your gain so you know exactly where it begins to distort. 01 Ford focus ZX3 Pioneer AVH-X491BHS PPI PC 4800.2 Morel Maximo 6.5" x2

meade916
might as well just guess. The results will be the same. Without proper tools you are not going to be able to set the gains properly. I don't care what anyone says, a DMM will not get the job done PROPERLY. Not even trying to sell you a Distortion Detector at all......go buy a cheap scope. It will work a heck of a lot better then a DMM or your ear. SnowDrifter
You can set mids and highs pretty easily by ear - it's super easy to hear clipping at 1kHz. At least for me. I can hear clipping before the dd-1 picks it up. Play a 1kHz -0 or -3db track and turn the gain up until you hear it clip, then back off until it sounds clean. ~~~~~~~~SAY NO TO PHOTOBUCKET~~~~~~~~ Snow's DD-1 tracks here: https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/167433-snows-dd-1-tracks/ My take on OFC vs CCA: https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/110381-things-that-piss-you-off-in-the-car-audio-world/?do=findComment&comment=2461444

zxsonnyxz
It will work a heck of a lot better then a DMM or your ear. Some will say they can presicely hear when the amp begins to distort. How easy is it really to hear? And I'm mainly conserned with bass amps. I mean, there must be a reason behind coming out with the DD-1, and why so many loves it, and why every decent shop had/have an o-scope or DD-1. I believe you can go by ear in many situations, but when you want 100% output with minimal distortion, the DD-1 seems like the best/easiest option. Carbon
I'd say DD1 or ear. A DMM wont do you any good.

I was talking about gain setting, not how much speakers can handle lol he's basically saying your speakers are distorting becayse they cannot handle it but the amp can put out more power cleanly than the speakers can handle if that makes sense Scion tC SQ BuildiPad mini, lots of fabrication, daily drivenFord Explorer C Pillar Wall Build Just a cheap car to destroy with bass
