Why do amps hum when clipping?

DC, Sundown, AB, all the big models do it. Never noticed it on anything under 2k, although I may not have been paying attention.

Both my Brutus's and Crescendo's do this also. Always wondered why. As soon as the distortion light on DD-1 comes on the amps made that buzzing sound.

With what tone? 40hz; -15dB, -10dB, -5dB, 0dB

40 hz -5db. Brutus 2100 and both BC3500's do it.

it doesn't matter. whenever the amp clips, the noise starts
