Kicker Haters - Please Enter!

Recommended Posts

why not show a video testing output on a terrmlab meter at 25, 30, 35, 40, 45, 50hz, then we can see how linear they are :). Throw an RTA into the equatio, and see where it maps.

Throwing power at a lower power sub you can force them to play whatever you want. run them at recommended RMS.

I've done all this already, but dont really care one way or another, just would really rather see someone test them with concrete data rather then..."o to my ear they play everything"

Also play something articulate, rather then slowed music that has next to no dynamics.

I would, if I were trying to convince everyone that they are the best. But I am not. I know better.

I was just saying they will get low and still sound good. They are by far not the best. But by far not the worst either.

I'm not trying to sell anything to anyone, I just don't understand all the hatred and bashing of them, that's all.

Just don't think it's cool for so many people to talk so much crap about something that other people like, and are proud to own.

That is, until they come SMD, or most car audio sites for that matter. All they hear is how their stuff is crap because it's Kicker.

Sorry but I think that is bs... and I'm just trying to understand it.

Personally I feel as though they are more mainstream and thus not high end enough for most fanatics IMO. There is better subs out there, louder, cleaner, more cost efficient, etc. Everyone and his brother seems to have had a Kicker at some point in time (for the most part) I think that is why most people bash them. I have never bashed any brand. Also, since Kicker is so common a lot of entry level car stereo people run them because it is a name they have heard and so you have a lot of guys thinking there 130 db car is LOUDER THAN ANYONE ELSE'S and since they run *Kicker* then Kicker gets a bad rap.

Anyways, when Squares came out i thought they were pretty decent subs, seemed plenty loud and yet surprisingly clean (still better brands existed of course). Of course Kicker was around long before that but it's what most people remember about kicker. I've had a couple Kicker 12" round subs pre-square days, and I've had some Solo X 18's as well powered by 2 Kicker amps (biggest they made at the time) and i really don't have any complaints about them honestly. I am at a point where I wont prolly go kicker again only because there is so many other brands out there these days and I've already made builds with 6+ different brands of equipment (2nd Rockford build in the works currently) so i really have no reason to go back to them, but not because of Kicker itself. That's my own $.02 on the subject.

The loudest I ever got my truck before the wall was with a pair of Solo X 18s on the warhorse. Put up a 153.00 sealed on the dash. I would be curious to see what I could pull of with the same sub on a DC 10k with clean power.

Used to think kicker was the shit, then I got the sub I'm running now and know what true sq means, don't get me wrong kickers get loud, but they sound so metallic to me, maybe if you reconed them with a nice paper cone it wouldn't sound so tinny, but my fiance loves her kicker, even tuned it pretty high since she is not a fan of 30hz and below
