Back on swing shifts. welding from 4:30pm-3am, on a big chevron project

What's the pay like?

I've been considering going to school for it and it's something I've always had interest in.

i went to welding school for 9 months. Learned all the processes and blueprints.

It pays decent for a shop, using mig. I make $18 right now with no benefits (only holiday pay, and vacation after 1 year). This is my first welding job out of school though

How much was school for you?

I think through my local community college it's around $5,000.

going to school i nice.. for 5 k i rather buy the welding machine and a few books to learn the tricks.. i welded before when i was 14 and seemed easy(i wasn't good). my 2 cousins who work welding learned by just giving it a try. its really not that hard. if you want to get into it buy a cheap welder for $200 and as you get better buy a better one.

School will give me a big head start and teach me all forms of welding which I wouldn't learn just working at a shop.

Also I'm after them big dollars and with out classes I doubt I'll get that.

That being said a lot of people's definition of "music" is a clipped 30 hz sine wave with some 80 IQ knuckle head grunting about committing crimes and his genitals.

honest to god man, a good start would be getting on as a welders helper with a pipeline crew...

Several guys I know started out that way, now they make $100k+/year pipelining. Brand new diesel pickups, RZR's, boats, all kinds of toys.
