Fiberglass vs different material surfaces

Recommended Posts

I'm working on a fiberglass project and I have a spot that leaves a gap, I was thinking about my options but now I have a question about the materials I narrowed it down to.

The easiest route seems to be insulation foam (Great Stuff) but I was wondering if resin would eat that up when I go over it.

Other option was body filler. Don't think I'll run into any issues there but it might be a little tougher.

You can use great stuff but before you resin it you have to put a coat of latex paint on the exposed foam or else it WILL eat the foam. I made a housing for my EQ this way and it turned out great. There are other foams made from different materials that won't get eaten by resin but they are much more expensive. Great stuff + "oops" paint at Lowe's = cheap and easy.

Sounds good guys. Thanks for the input.

I have some leftover paint so I'll go that route.

I've always wondered if you could glass OVER body filler with good results. I would go for the "kitty hair" filler myself.

i used that method with my kicks, along with a layer of mat then used lightweight body filler over that sanded, painted and didnt like the way it looked... lol, threw carpet on them and called it a day.
