I installed AQ subs last week. Now I understand you can play full tilt for them to break in but AQ said to wait 2 weeks for them to loosen up a bit. Or can I play full tilt and be fine?

Let me put it this way.... I've sent fresh, never played subs as hard as they will go without bottoming out. I have yet to break something. Many others here will say the same thing.

Break in isn't a process. It's what happens when you use it. So use it

i as a DD dealer will say this. subs that "require" break in really should be broken in. not so much for the mechanics of them as the SQ. a stiff sub will sound like ass for the first bit on full tilt. almost like your amp isn't tuned properly. most box brand subs sound the same from the start. i can't even name all the subs i have installed in my years. but the DD's, AQ's, and Sundowns all sounded better a few weeks after install.

im abusing my sundown x12s pretty hard, granted im only running half power right now and they did have that smell at first for some reason, but they are running strong, things did seem a bit off on one specific decaf song, so i just didnt listen to that one song, i think it was the tuning of the song vs the temp box im using and the settings on the amp, but they are running strong no issues
