I know you got it already, but my truck has a grommet setup like yours. What i did was i took my oil dipstick (cleaned it of course) and carefully fed it through. Since the dipstick is flat and has a rounded tip, it was a fairly simple process.

Just in case somebody finds this through a search and doesn't want to drill through their car.

I wish I drilled right away its crazy how quick and easy it is and you barely put that big a hole in it and the grommets clean it up nice
