kirill007 Posted January 7, 2015 Report Posted January 7, 2015 The hifonics puts out the same power, and the components are roughly the same, actually the hifonics has better caps and N-type transistors, only thing better on the SQ amp is the P-type transistors that are marginally better. Moral of the story, some internet brands aren't as good as they appear. To answer Reedal's question, a lot more hifonics amps are being sold and bought second hand compared to SQ amps. (and maybe it has something to do with them being on this site..) Thinking is the root of all problems... You ALWAYS get what you pay for.
walwalka Posted January 7, 2015 Report Posted January 7, 2015 One thing that I noticed that makes a lot of sense now, is there is no distortion rating at 1 ohm on soundqubed website. Sure it makes power dynamically but only making 1100w rms at 1% distortion isn't that great. I would hope that it would do more than that. How much that will come up with the voltage I don't know, but I'm hoping that we will find out soon. The only number I care about is certified from a number standpoint. DubNDodge Posted January 7, 2015 Report Posted January 7, 2015 Im waiting for the "they good for the money" comments, even though it would have to be "they are good for the money even though they cost more than hifonics". LOL This same thing ran though my head. lolol. FUCK. I have a 2200. Do you think there is any possibility that the AQ line of these amps is any different? But the other three monoblocks they offer, they do list rated power @ 1% THD. and for the 750 & 1200 i believe 5% as well as the 1% THD SMD Tool Map https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/193176-smd-tool-map-new-november-2014/ Build log https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/197217-reeds-03-tahoe-hat-sqaq-singer-xs-shca-cockbox-80prs/?page=32
Afficionado Posted January 7, 2015 Author Report Posted January 7, 2015 I'm not butthurt about this at all. I look at it as it's rated for 2200 watts with a 1ohm load @ 14.4 volts. It produced 76 watts less than 2200 at 1.6 volts less than its rated at. If it had a constant 14.4 volts for the test then I have no doubts that it would put out what it is rated for. The hifonics clearly did not do its rated 2400 or close to. But the soundqubed, can you say it doesn't do rated without there being a constant 14.4 volts when under load? No. I will still nut hug soundqubed because it almost produced rated power at less voltage. Board similarities? Are they the same amp with a different face for us to look at? Appears so. But at least hifonics has again been disproved in my book by not coming close to 2400 watts. I feel that I can safely assume that my 3500 does rated at rating voltage after seeing this video. I agree with this. the Soundqubed will probably do rated power at rated voltage, the hifonics probably won't...but it still makes the hifonics a "better deal for your money". I agree. If you want 2000 watts as cheap as possible, go hifonics. but how many threads or questions are there about a hifonics amp having an issue or going into protect compared to soundqubed? i dont believe I've seen any issue about an SQ amp except for one guy who was trying to sell his and had left it powered without a load and fried some resistors in it, and the guy who screwed up his RCA inputs yesterday. I'm not saying there arent any, but i just havent come across them. Hifonics, I've seen a lot of questions about them having some problem, and I didnt even find this forum until may of last year. The boards may be the same layout, and i skipped over a lot of the technical jargon to get the point where the testing happened, but are the components of the same quality inside? Are they the same brand/type components? I think the hifonics has cheaper components compared to the SQ, thats why you're paying a cheaper price, and not having the quality or longevity of life from them. Pricewise, go with hifonics. Reliability, I choose soundqubed. I imagine that the DC 2k outputs close to the same power as these two if the DC's are underrated. It's better quality and more reliable, so it cost more. soundqubed 2200 vs DC 2k vid next....? The hifonics uses better components. As someone else mentioned, there are WAY more hifonics amps sold than soundqubed, hence why you see more problematic hifonics amps. I don't see there being a DC 2k here in the near future. HOWEVER, a Skar 1500 did very near to the same numbers as the sq/hifonics did. One thing that I noticed that makes a lot of sense now, is there is no distortion rating at 1 ohm on soundqubed website. Triticum Agricolam Posted January 7, 2015 Report Posted January 7, 2015 Real world amp tests currently best thread @ smd. This x 1,000,000 What I find truly amazing is that we now have the ability to measure this stuff with the level of accuracy, repeat-ability, and ease that we now do. I think its ground-breaking and my hat is off to Tony and Steve for making it possible. The AD-1 is only half of it too. The other half is that we have a place such as this where we can share the information with the rest of the community. These type of things have totally changed how I buy pretty much everything and its all for the better. Krakin Posted January 7, 2015 Report Posted January 7, 2015 never liked hifonics they don't sound good going from them to my o2 amp there was a slight difference in sound don't know about the sq but does it sound better then the hifonics?.. if it does then i still rather have a sq over a hifonics Well if you go by the Richard Clarks $10,000 challenge of all amplifiers sounding the same, you would be wrong. No one yet has been able to prove his theory wrong and select which amp was which in a blind folded test and win the money. The only thing I would like to challenge about that theory is time. With enough time would someone be able to tell the difference between individual amplifiers. Solid state is still a developing technology, but anyone that has messed with tube technology or even read about it will know that different tubes have a different sound. Some tubes are even bad enough that they are "sluggish" in their own sound. Krakin's Home Dipole Project http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/186153-krakins-dipole-project-new-reciever-in-rockford-science/#entry2772370 Krakin, are you some sort of mad scientist? I would have replied earlier, but I was measuring the output of my amp with a yardstick . . . What you hear is not the air pressure variation in itself but what has drawn your attention in the two streams of superimposed air pressure variations at your eardrums An acoustic event has dimensions of Time, Tone, Loudness and Space Everyone learns to render the 3-dimensional localization of sound based on the individual shape of their ears, thus no formula can achieve a definite effect for every listener.
Noel989 Posted January 7, 2015 Report Posted January 7, 2015 What's the price of each amp? Sq- $429 Hifonics -$270 $159 difrencee How is that not "good for the money" When looking into a 2k watt amp? The video did imo a really good comparison Now we can't say hifonics uses cheap parts Build Log - http://www.stevemead...-cruiser-el-pt/
