KiKaZz74
So im just about ready to build my box for my Hertz HX300. I planned on using some scrap mdf I have but then I started looking and got to thinking. What about a premium type of plywood. I work at menards and looked in the aisle to see what there was. I thought staining the box might look cool instead of carpeting it. These plywoods in 3/4" are Red oak- veneer core 5 thick layers / mdf core Maple- veneer core 5 thick layer / 1/4" mdf core Birch- 9-11 layer UV finished / classic looks like 10 or 11 layer / 5 thick layers higher quality Does anyone think any of these would work? Pics can be included if anyone wishes to see more detail. RooTxBeeR
From what I have seen others say, you don't want veneer wood. All it is is cheap ply on the inside with a nice layer on the outside. I would say get true MDF or even true birch ply. I used birch on both my last build and the wood is solid as hell. Also birch is way lighter than mdf. Weigel21
I've heard to try and go with a 13 ply if opting to go with Birch.
KiKaZz74
We do have a pure I think oak or red oak veneer hardwood core but not at a price im looking to spend. Might have to go like mdf and glue or something a layer of the mdf maple to it. That might work? Krakin
13 ply baltic birch or go with MDF. Or you can be like Haakon and do a carbon fiber enclosure. Krakin's Home Dipole Project http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/186153-krakins-dipole-project-new-reciever-in-rockford-science/#entry2772370 Krakin, are you some sort of mad scientist? I would have replied earlier, but I was measuring the output of my amp with a yardstick . . . What you hear is not the air pressure variation in itself but what has drawn your attention in the two streams of superimposed air pressure variations at your eardrums An acoustic event has dimensions of Time, Tone, Loudness and Space Everyone learns to render the 3-dimensional localization of sound based on the individual shape of their ears, thus no formula can achieve a definite effect for every listener.
