dylan117
I've seen quite a few write-ups on 4th order ratios and what not, but am struggling to find anything on 6th orders. what would a 1:1 compared to a 2:1, 3:1, etc. ratio 6th order sound like? Thanks!
Raptorman
Throw "ratio" out the window. (for the most part) Go for the ratio that gives you the proper port tunings, port areas, port lengths, and chamber volumes. Rear tuned low, small port area, smaller volume. Front tuned high, tuned double the rear tuning, large port area, bigger volume. I say for the most part because I've found that anything below 1.5:1 is in most cases not an optimal enclosure, and the box starts to get very cramped and it gets tough to lay everything out efficiently. 1996 GMC Sonoma Four Fi BTL Neo 18's In 2:1 6th Order Bandpass 2 Ampere 5k's @ .5 TEAM FI TEAM #LITHIUMCANTDEMO On 10/20/2013 at 0:37 AM, KillaCam said: Fucking with a Prius driver is like making fun of a disabled kid. WalledSonic
Low tuning, smaller volume @Raptorman? Is that right? Thought low tuning would have a larger volume. Simulations on WinISD seem to favor a large volume for the low side, but i dont have a sickkk low tuned sixth like yourself, either :-P Chevy Sonic Wall (4) 15's on 10k Build Log https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/209412-2015-chevy-sonicwall4-15s10klithiumlarge-case-hairpin-us-alts/ (4) Fi SP4 15's | (2) Ampere 5Ks | Active! | Arc KS600.2 & KS125.2mini | CDT Silk Domes | Silver Flute 8s | 240Ah JY | US Alts Jeep Wrangler JK (4) 8's in a 4th Order Build Log https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/209841-shadow-2016-jeep-wrangler-jk4th-order4-8sdc-35klarge-case-hairpin-us-alts/ IG @walledsonic
Raptorman
It's right. And pay ZERO attention to the graphs in winisd or any other program. They are utterly useless. All you should use winisd for is vent mach and tuning. Triticum Agricolam
Its important to differentiate between series-tuned and parallel-tuned 6th order designs. Series-tuned and parallel-tuned are VERY different beasts. WinISD only models parallel-tuned boxes and is useless for series-tuned. With a parallel-tuned box usually the low-tuned side is larger, its the opposite with series-tuned, as Raptorman said. WalledSonic
*facepalm*. Forgot Raptorman's setup was series tuned. Thanks for chiming in. Raptorman
For car audio, you will want to work with series. Parallel doesn't fit in very well for us IMO. And series is much easier to get right. And series is much easier to get right. There have been a couple parallel tuned that I really like But with that being said I have built 3 different series tuned and they all seem to play just fine. I think that I will stick to 4ths tho. Easier and just as much output in my opinion
