doug118 Posted September 22, 2010 Report Posted September 22, 2010 Ok I really don't feel like looking through all the arguing to figure out exactly what is going on but I believe you're going to build 3 boxes for the smd's, test all 3 boxes, then swap in some Level 5's and test those also, then decide which subs are better for your application? is that right? are you going to go for the subs and box combo that does the highest TL score or which ones sound bed on the ear-lab? 2001 Tahoe. matt402 Posted September 22, 2010 Report Posted September 22, 2010 i think your post is total BS the SMD was made to be loud AND... sound good doing it. These people are talking numbers. To get numbers you push that sub to its limits. The SMD has a higher limit. One sub has a 3" coil and is going nuts at its limit........and the other has a 4" coil, can take more power, and hasnt hit its limit yet. That is the reason people are saying "apples and oranges". ^ this is why i think the "drop in test" should be done with lvl 6s. oh well . GL to u CJ. let the best sub be used daily... ? & the other sub plugged into a 220v socket!

What makes it a spl edition Im curious of, just less spiders making a looser suspension which in return gives you a more efficient woofer?? I remember seeing a link posted here to a youtube video... However He never put no where near the needed power to the DD Z18. Granted if his DC lvl4 xl spl sub was louder then the DDZ18 in that test dont mean nothing much.. Your taking a woofer that requires a lot less power to each its full potential and xmax. He never came NO WHERE near Alan Dantes 180.5db legal using a DDZ18. So how a LVL 4xl spl edition beats the loudest sub in the world (dd z18 @ 180.5db) when the dc lvl4 xl spl only does a 178.3db and is short by 2.2db is beyond me. Then the funnier part was there is no video proof of clamped powers in these tests (just some chicken scratch wrote on a paper that could be manipulated), nor was there no video of the DDZ18 being being in the vehicle, burped or actual clamped power tests..... Then if you read the discription on the video, the dd did 177.2db on 7777watts and the lvl4xl spl did 177.3db on 6976watts, but the dc lvl 4xl spl did 178.3db with 34,586 watts.. WHY WAS THE DD Z18 NOT TESTED WITH 34,586 WATTS???????????? HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM.... Talk about biased comparisons... This one takes the cake! When steve brown, can't remebe his last name but I think it's brown, had his 2 dd z 18s stolen he swapped in level 5 18s. He gained .5 db off rip with a higher impedance. Done a 160 flat with the 2 dd zs and with the level 5s 160.5. Power is 2 Stetson 14kds daily and 4 14kds on burps. Also the deathmatch thing .... Well, that's tough for ANY equipment. And as for what Steve said about the 2 warhorses per sub. Rusty was puttin 20kw per when he did 67.5 in his van. Just sayin Im nominating you for the biggest dick riding nut hugger on the planet. I would want to read through all of the BS in this thread either. Basically I am going to try both sets of subs in 3 different boxes and see which sub like which box the best. The SMDs to the ear and just the way they make me feel are louder than my Solo Xs ever were. Because of the way the numbers are turning out I am going to see about having my TL mic recalibrated just to rule that out.(wouldnt that be some shit if its off).
