I use Whiteside and Freud

Another thing to consider when using bits is router speed and push.

If you are pushing to hard or trying to work the piece too fast, you will heat the bit up and ruin it. Let the bit do all the work. Also working a smaller bit to do large cuts isn't suggested. Use a bigger bit with a better cut shank.

I also like to use an spiral up or down cut over a straight cut bit. It has better cut speeds as well as a cleaner cut.

not many cars can get me to pluggin my ears but this one.......damn. I mean the first minute is ok but that thing just really starts digging deeper and deeper in your earhole till you cant stand it no more. Seems like it does it with relative ease....16 12's on 8 amps.........gotta love it. :)

Those Freud bits (Diablo) are bank! Just for an example, a single Freud 1/4" shank 1/2" roundover bit runs about $34 at Home Depot......I picked up a set of 3 1/4" shaft roundover bits made by Ryobi (1/4", 3/8" and 1/2" bits) for $19.99 at Home Depot. I think the determining factor should be how often you're gonna be using them.....if you're gonna be a box building fool then you might be better off paying the higher price for something that may be more durable. But if you're like me and only gonna build a box or two a year at most then it would be hard to justify the higher cost of the Freud bits.

I grabbed a cheapy craftsman 5-6 bit set that I've used on I don't know how many boxes now...my straight bit has cut a lot of circles though.

When I can I only use diablo bits, especially on my upcut bits. I love how they cut wood like butter.
