Have mercy. Yeah- that was during all of that hellacious rain. What a crazy story- so lucky to be alright with all of that equipment flying everywhere. Sucks- I know exactly where that is too... part of my weekly service / work drive. He isn't kidding about the drop offs on the highway- really high. Man! Could have been so much worse....

Exactly what I was thinking.... just be careful though- don't let CLR sit too long on Aluminum (like more than 30 seconds / a minute) before wiping off and cleaning. It can start to etch and haze the aluminum if you aren't careful. Also: This stuff is the bees knees. You can get it at most big box stores too (Wal-Mart, Target, etc....) cheaply.

What I did: Use cardboard to figure out your shape between wall and side of your car. Then if you have depth issues, use as many layers of mdf you need to get your depth. Then get some 1/2" foam (weatherstripping) to put where it meets the vehicle.
