Lol on the coil smell, never had that happen. Yet Those 1.5" tweets would work just fine on head unit power, I've done that before and it helped the higher notes. Check audiosavings for their small tweets, Quantum Audio. I've had 2 pair of them and they still play great after 2 years.

It's forsure not the sub lol. The gain is a 1/4th up, sub level is all the way up on H/U. I get above half gain on the sub amp before I smell coil. 1/4th way up is just when I start dipping below 13.0v. But I never now, because it's not dd-1 tuned.

Do you have a pioneer head unit? If you do, make sure your RCA ground fuse isn't blown before you move things because it may not make a difference.

I think the coustic were some good amps too! I think you're right in the area as far as what power you'll see, probably between 60-70 per channel.
