  2. I have a f-150 ext. cab truck and looking to put something in it. I am looking for opinions on what I should look at, this is first time dealing with a truck and have been told it's a different sound from what you get with a couple 12's in the trunk. I am thinking of Fi SSD 12 under the bench. Any tips or anything would be helpful on how to make this all work with the limited space I have. Right now I am looking for advise so I know where to start with this.
  3. Hello everyone, This is my first post here, or on any forum on the interwebz. Thank you all in advance for any help you can provide. So my old focus hatchback decided to kick the bucket and I purchased a 2012 chrysler 200. Not my first choice of bass car but its nice and they were the only dealership in the Ann Arbor MI are that could get me a reasonable loan. I have 1 Sundown Z v.3 18 that i would love to try to cram in the trunk, i built the box for it that was in my focus but it will not fit in the chrysler so im looking for advice on how to make the proper choices for port size and what not. I do not plan to compete, i like it loud but clear also. Im not a strick audiophile but i can tell whats good and not. I love the lows, feeling the music is the best part but i listen to all sorts of music not just rap so id like to be able to have a bit of range. The trunk has a max height of 14.5 inches (that includes space for the woofer to move), 38" wide at the smallest point and id like to keep it to a max length of 30ish". I obviously dont care about having any trunk space left, thats why we have back seats right? For the time being ill be using my orion hcca 10 in the spec ported box that i paid wayyy to much to have the local shop build a few years ago. Power is a Hifonics Brutus brx 1600, kinetik hc 2000, knukoncepts ofc 1 awg, stock alt, new front batt soon and big 3 soon, there is only the stock crap in the car right now. And i know the amp isnt amazing but it gets the job done. So after the longwindedness you just endured what would yall say is a good port option? 6 to 7 cube box, i know the rule of thumb is 12 to 16 in sqd per foot cubd, id like to be around 32 33 hz. I was think an internal height of about 11", sub mounted up to a single baffle with a second overtop to make it flush and add strength and some 2x4 braces around the cutout. Single baffle everywhere else. My last box i messed up on calculations (first time) and ended up tuned way high but it sounded pretty good, got loud and still played down into the 20s. It is 1.5 inch mdf all around, resind the inside, 45d the corners, bedlined the outside, it weighs more than my gf with a purse full of rocks. Id like to go birch and stain it this time Thank you all again, im open to any and all suggestions. I can post pics too if anyone wants. As an fyi i have no comp to use any box building software since my macbook pro was stolen a year and a half ago so im all website calcs and paper.
  4. My first build log, hope you guys like it. Please tell me if you guys like it, what else i should do, give me ideas i know its not the best system right now, i've just started this so give me a break plz haha
  5. Hi there I need help deciding on what to do with my money. As of now my system is great, but its really only loud when it wants to be. There are probably a lot of things i don't understand about voltage but I know that it determines the output of my amp to some degree. I have a brutus 1200d. (big surprise) w/the big three. Its on a stock battery wet cell 65ah 140 amp alt. I have my gains set with a DD-1 and its powering 2 12's @ 1 ohm. I have read many things about this amp being power hungry and I want to know if that has to do with its changes in output. People say its cheap but it costs more for the electrical to run it. For instance I will be driving along and I will play it full tilt after driving for a bit and then let it off for a while. Then when I am almost home I turn it up again and its loud as hell. Sometimes its the opposite. other times the lows are almost gone and then they will be loud again. Could this be solved by a new battery, new amp, or a better understanding of voltage?
  6. Anyone remember this topic? Well I got tired of that stupid probox, plus I had an opportunity to get 2 subs. I recently got my eagle scout, and as a gift i got two sundown SA-12's. I took your guys' advice and built a box for them. Its a separated chamber box with 2.06 cubes for each sub @ 600watts each. 4 three inch aero ports that are a little more than 8 inches long gives it a tuning of 36hz. I know thats kind of high but I like it. took me a week to design and three days to build. It sounds awesome, especially when everything in my system agrees with each other. I can feel it in my throat on those notes above 40hz. It's funny how the subs really don't move that much but have no trouble being loud. The kids at my school pull in with their prefabs blaring their 2 12's thinking they're the shit and then they hear my box (on pretty much equal power). Just the other day I gave my friend a demo and as I was pulling out to leave and this kid looked at my car with a smile on his face and said "Damn!" It was the best thing ever. Anyway here is a video I made of the box.
  7. I have 2 12" Alpine Type R subs, they are dual 4 ohm subs rated at 1000 RMS each and right now have them on a cheap amp and they need more power. What kind of amp should I get that fits them the best? I see on most amps they say they are like 3k but they end up putting out about half that when they are tested, I need an amp that will give me true power. They will be put into a sub box I am building now that will be tuned to 33 hz. Let me know what would fit them the best.
  8. So, here's the idea. I'm a mod at another forum (not saying I know better than the mods here), and I got so sick and tired of answering the SAME questions over and over every single week, I created the Official Newb Thread for that forum, and hyperlinked it into my signature and the sig of the forum admin and rest of the mods. Now, whenever one of us greets an aspiring newb, they get a big red link to READ THE NEWB THREAD. It has drastically cut down on stupid questions, and become a great place of reference for stuff everyone new to a forum should know (forum rules, basics mods, part numbers, links to FSM and other resources.) So, does everyone think a similar thread would be of help here? If so, start throwing out suggestions, either Newb info or links to good resources at this forum and beyond. Personally, I have a few things I bookmarked that should be required reading for car audio newbs.
  9. Im getting a new car and im looking to put a new system in it. Im leaning towards a dodge charger. Any ideas on what i should drop in it???
  10. Here we go! Finally started my build! Whats going into it--- 2 American bass XFL D2 12s 1 Audiopipe 1800.1 American Bass AK4 wiring kit JVC KD-HDR61 head-unit Some aftermarket Pioneer 6x9 in the rear And stock doors for the time being haha I know I won't be doing everything right but this is my first build and I will be adding onto it as I go! Now for pics! My 1994 Pontiac Gran Prix Got the pieces of the box all cut out. (Thanks Joe X!) Just to take a look. 4,6 cubes tuned to 32Hz Gluing, screwing, and sanding! 11. I was looking at Fi Audio's new line of NEO(dymium) subwoofers. I had a ferrite SSD15 back in 2013 and I liked it a lot. I was thinking about getting either the NEO SSD 15 with the SQ/HT (Xmax coil with soft suspension) and the internal leads, or a NEO Q 15 fully loaded (but i dont know whether to get hybrid or stitched tinsel leads). Either one will be ported at 33hz. I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with these subs yet or knows much about them, they look great. Right now i've got 2 Soundqubed HDS2.1 12's on 1200w RMS. They sound good, but I wanted to get something more SQ oriented while still providing plenty of SPL. Opinions and ideas, please!
  12. Hey Guys! I am thinking of buying some new subwoofers, and wanted to ask for your advices/recomendations on the ones I looked up. I kind of look for a pair of 12-s in the 400-460$ price range ( including shipping to midle Europe), and will be powered by a Hifonics Brutus BRX 2016.1D, and an XS Power D975 for now. So far I tought about getting one of these: 1) Rockford Fosgate Punch P3D4 12" 2) Alpine Type R SWR-12D4 3) Massive Audio TOROX124 12" I apprechiate any help in a form of an answer! Maybe if you have experience with any of them, or have a woofer that you would recomend for me feel free to share. THX!!
  13. Finally starting my build!!! So excited!!! Equipment going in--- 2 American Bass XLF 12s Audiopipe 1800.1 American Bass AK4 wiring kit (Not all to sure what to do with the mids/highs yet and also a bunch of things but will keep piecing it it together as I go) This is my first real build considering i'm only 17 so any input on what I do is welcomed! It will be a slow build log considering it is literally paycheck to paycheck but hey, I also want my shit done right so i'm trying not to rush it Here come the pics that I have for now!
  14. hi everybody, i want to buy a new system for my car, i have a nissan versa sedan 2015. but i will not sacrifice all my trunk space... I'm thinking of buying a subwoofer rockford P3SD2-12 or 12TW3-D4 jlaudio with an amplifier rockford T500x1br you who recommended me for not sacrificing much space in my trunk?
  15. Hi Forum, This is my first post and SQ build ever so i need some guidence and help please. I drive a 2009 Mitsubishi Lancer ES Sport which currently has Infinity Kappas on the doors with stock wires and some BS dual deck which works like crap. im looking into redoing the whole audio with monster cable for speaker wire and second skin CLD (first layer) then MLV (second layer) and finally put down some CCF (third layer) for max luxury feel and quietness (so i think and was told on DIYMobileAudio.com) please let me know if this is overkill and a waste of money or would the end result justify the work and money. the system im thinking is as follow please advice if changes should be made. Car Audio Setup 1 Kenwood KDC-X997 $259.00 1 Alpine MRX-F65 $259.00 1 Alpine MRX-M110 $279.00 1 Alpine RUX-KNOB $28.00 1 PAC SWI-RC $43.99 2 JL Audio 10W3v3-4 $329.98 1 JBL MS-62C (front) $299.99 1 Infinity Kappas (back) $0.00 $1,498.96 1 0 Gauge Dual Amplifier Installation Kit $69.99 1 NVX XWS1250 (12ga speaker Wire) $79.99 $149.98 $1,648.94 Thank you so much! *edit - Forgot to mention i plan to build two separate Fiberglass sub boxes on each side of the trunk for maximun trunk space saving and stealthiest look.
  16. so i just got a new car and i dont want to replace the head unit or run wires all the way to the front other than the power wire cuz theres so many dang panels haha. my amp has speaker level inputs to use instead of rcas for factory head units. so my question is can i just run them to my factory amp which is in the trunk rather than to the speakers on either side of the car or head unit?
  17. hey every one i am going to be building my first enclosure ever and need some help. i have two kicker l7 15s going in an 02 Chevy trailblazer, and i have been playing around with the Torres box software. for me the design has been a little tricky since i don't have experience. from what i gather the kicker website says per sub need a minimum of 3 cubic feet to a max of 6 cubic feet per sub for the box, so the measurements i have for the box in Torres calculator is a height of 22 inches a width of 38 inches and a depth of 30 inches, the port dimensions im a little confused on i have the height at 20.5 inches im assuming using 3/4 inch mdf it cant be the same height as the whole box since you have to take 1 in a half inches off between the thickness of the top and the bottom. now i have 7 inches in the width box for the port and a length of 24 inches. now i looked up online it says each sub has a displacement of .16 so i put .32 in the woofer displacement box is that correct or should i put .16? i have two common port walls and 1 extra baffle since i will be firing the subs upward and i want the top to be 1.5 inches i have that box checked and i want the port to be towards the rear hatch of my truck. with all of these measurements as is it says the gross volume is 12.34 cubic feet and the net volume is 9.19 cubic feet tuned at 33.55 hz with 15.62 square inches of port area per foot and a port area of 143.50 square inches. now i have read around that putting 45s in the box makes it sound better along with sanding the outside and inside of the port to round it off makes it sound better.
  18. Hey guys, I just bought a audio pipe ap30001 (audio poop) Because i heard some good about it. Also, im not able to slap out 1.5k on a amp. So i went to replace my MB quart oa1000.1 and all i smell is burning coils. Now, before i tell you what subs im running, i know deep down inside me that i am a horrible person. I have 4 lanzar max pro's http://www.parts-express.com/lanzar-maxp154d-15-1600-watt-woofer--267-7138 So i know my audio poop doesnt do a full 3000 watts, its rocking a 200 amp fuse so im thinking around 2000 watts clean if clean is possible. Big d wiz did a video on rms and posted on youtube with the 1500, it did 1000 watts, and all the 3000 is two 1500's strapped. So really what im asking is what are some decent 18" subs i can get for a ghetto budget build? i was looking at some obsidians, but they only got 600 watts rms. I also was looking at an RE woofer with 1000 rms, but it seemed like the obi's would have more xmax and more output (im a sucker for high rolls and fat magnets)
  19. I've had this thought in the back of my mind for quite some time. After talking to a couple of buddies at work, they convinced me that it would be worth it and to go for it. As I have never dabbled in the car audio world much, I am not sure as to what would suit me best. My budget is around $500, and am trying to get the best thump and quality for my buck. I would be putting this in a 2005 Ford Taurus SEL sedan. Currently, I have the factory Bose speakers, and no sub. Here is what I'm looking at right now. Pioneer DEH-X6900BT https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01KKHSYGE/ref=crt_ewc_title_dp_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A1FMHNVWMGI839 Pioneer Gm-D9601 2,400-Watt Class D Mono Amp https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00CLFM596/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A2AH6BGHI3KV4N Pioneer 12-Inch 4000W TS-W3003D4 Subwoofers with Vented Box Enclosure https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01CMWSC6W/ref=ox_sc_act_title_4?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A1DXN92KCKEQV4 KnuKonceptz KCA Complete 4 Gauge Amp Installation Kit https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0050I6KII/ref=ox_sc_act_title_3?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A1NLNJ4Y2QP8Z Some questions that I have are: 1. Will I be able to run this off of the stock alternator, and a single battery while running? a. If so, about how long without having the car running. 2. Should I replace the Front and Rear speakers, or if just replacing the head unit be sufficient? I am open to any recommendations, criticism, and advice.
  20. Figured this post might be appropriate for the forum for "all things music related" considering this new instrument is used to make music! Let me just say, i'm super excited. I've been waiting to purchase my own euphonium for the better part of a decade and now i've finally done it. I will post a full unboxing video at some point but don't have the time right now. All I can do right now is post a picture of what it looks like in it's case and some of the merch they provided with it. For those asking what a euphonium is, it is a low brass instrument. Think of a mini tuba. This specific one has 4 piston valves (used to play different notes) and is considered compensating. It is silver-plated and has very nice engravings on the valve caps and on the bell.
  21. Im new to building a box with an aeroport so im needing some help with the build. Im building a box for an american bass hd 12. Ive looked all over the internet for box specs but came up with nothing. I did however find that the speaker is basically the same as the soundqubed hdc3 (old stiff version). I then came across a forum post saying that the optimum box size for spl and overall sound quality would be 3 cubes net, 18 square inches of port area per cube, tuned between 34-39 hz. I calculated a box with a slot port and it would be way too huge for my trunk. My question is what size diameter aeroport(s) should i use? Right now with my lack of knowledge ive guessed one 6".
  22. Hey guys. I'm pretty new to the scene. Looking to upgrade my system completely, but I don't know what to get. Just looking for suggestions. Possibly a new deck, new door speakers, and a new set of subs. I want something that really hits hard. As clear as it can be, but still a lot of deep bass. Something impressive, and better than the typical two 12" set up. I want people to hear me coming before they see me, and to know I got a decent system when they hear it. I'm gonna put it in a 1983 Camaro with a hatchback setup. I currently have Sony Xplod door speakers (one is shorting out) and an old Pioneer deck from like 2006. The trunk space is kind of weird, as it's terraced, but hopefully that won't be a problem. Anyway, feel free to drop some advice. Hopefully I can land something in the $200 - $800 price range. Although I would entertain $1,000 for something exceptional. Thanks peeps!
  23. So I am picking up a Lexus es300 on Thursday, and I know that it is not a typical deck, and would likely require a custom job for a deck, what are my options? I am going to be using all Memphis products otherwise, and a shuriken battery (bt20) for extra power, not decided on subs but most likely will be using my JBL gt series 12's (2) until I save a few more pennies. So ANY suggestions? thanks yall
  24. Hey guys, Looking for your input. Picking up a 2010 300c and this will be my first "sedan" and thinking how to get loud clean bass out of a nice clean box. My thoughts was to building a narrow box for a Sundown x8 with a front port. Im thinking of fitting it between behind the arm rest and seal it from the trunk to have no trunk rattle and not have that trunk eat up all the bass. What do you guys think? Don't worry i won't ask you guys to design it for free. just looking for the best box design for this car.
  25. I'm expecting a fair chunk of money from my taxes and i have no idea what to do with it. Any ideas?
