Im doing a debate in class to lower drinking age to 18.

A few points are

Earlier drinking will produce more maturity in regards to drinking.

You can be in the military training to defend our country yet our country doesn't give you the freedom to drink bc of your age.

We are the only country with a drinking age of 21

Teenagers drink in high school

Education in school in regards to drinking

Not a hope does that earlier drinking age mean more maturity with drinking. I live in a country where you can drink at 18, shit I started drinking properly when I was 14 with spirits. I've seen 13 and 14 year olds get taken away in an ambulance from alcohol poisoning. Maybe it's just because I live in Ireland that's the way it is but when you lower a drinking age you have everybody, for example 2 years and up, thinking "hey I'm only a year or two away from being legal, it's alright to start drinking now."

I do think 21 is a bit steep though, ever since one person put to me that say you get married at 18/19 or 20 in america, you couldn't even have a drink at your own wedding. Seems absurd. Plus those are the best college years. Let us know how the debate goes anyway I'm curious now.

I like the drinking laws in Texas as long as you are 16 or 18 (cant remember) you have your parents permission and you are in their sight but i still don't think the legal age to buy alcohol should be lowered but maybe less restricted on consuming if that makes sense.

to the best of my knowledge the cops wont break down your door if your at home drinking and under 21....

honestly? not exactly a fact i suppose....but there's countless times ive seen people well under the age of 21 complain about waking up the next day and they have nop idea where their car is, their wallet, their phone, keys, u name it, they lose it on those nights when they get shit-faced, fall-over drunk...not so much for people that are 21. Also there's been a few people to tell me that they used to drink all the time, till they hit 21, then their drinking slowed down to little to no drinking at all because it's just not as "fun". Other people i know also picked up getting shit-faced drunk once they hit 21...its all about how mature and responsible an individual is. My .02

Most 18 year olds around here aren't mature at all whilst sober. Letting them drink means more wholesale ass kicking being given out on my part. Bad Idea. Wait three more years, tough shit.

Nothing good comes from letting 18 year old's get drunk, they tend to fight more over women, fight over principles they tend to know very little about, run off with the mouth and piss off others leading to more fights. My grand parents owned a bar that had the 18 year old's drinking before they raised it to 21 and i can tell it was hell for them having to deal with kids so young getting drunk causing more problems than was needed. Most people that age are very disrespectful and alcohol only amplifies that and leads to all sorts of confrontations that end in fights with someone hurt or dead.
