Dwn4BassAlan
So I could probably use GOOP / E6000, but goop dries a little faster and stronger from what I've noticed. I remember seeing on a recone site to use GOOP I think? Is that a pretty common one? Everytime I see a guy driving a mini cooper I cant help but think he loves cock & (2/29/16)-My wife just bitched at me about throwing out things we don't really use. My response of well we don't really use your vagina so should we throw that out was evidently not the right response. I had to leave the room. I missed Alan. RIP 5/29/15 - I love you son. audiofanaticz
so I'm reading about CA glue not exactly being the best choice for attaching the cone's surround-lip to the basket? Is that true? Would something like a slightly-flexible but very strong glue/sealant do the job better? Maybe even the loctite PL I got? Yes and no.. It depends on the ca glue that you are using. This is why I wont buy rebottled ca glue from various vendors, because you dont know what your getting, you dont have msds sheets and know any properties of the glue your using. Why ca glue can be bad for surrounds is do to some ca glue is not foam safe, meaning it will eat through the surrounds if they are foam or a higher percentage of foam mixed with something like rubber. There is ca glue out there that is rubber toughened and foam safe, which is the glue I use as well as a lot of woofer manufactures that build their own recones or assemble the soft parts in house. Every woofer I ever built (and its been a lot) Ive always used CA for everything (except some woofers where I use a different glue for dustcaps to match factory appearance). Ive never once had an issue with surrounds tearing, being at up from the ca glue, or releasing. Perfect example is the BTL N3s I build with the zv4 cones, everything was ca glued including the cone to the basket, never an issue, and these subs are 2500wrms woofer that have about 5000wrms going to each one. No issues. Now on the other hand Sundown was having a problem with these cones releasing from the basket due to too much release agent being used in the molds upon being manufactured and the non ca glue that the factory uses which is a rubber glue would fail and make a clean release from the surrounds.
