Sutliff
How come it appears to be the consensus that it is not a good idea to mix acid core BATTs w/ AGM BATTs in system builds ... or for any multi-BATT reason? Lbox88
It's frowned upon because float voltage difference between lead-acid and agm are different. The lower voltage on the LA will pull current from the AGM, lowering the AGM's float. Quite a few guys have done it, it's not going to explode, it's just better practice to have same chemistry batteries. UBL | Build Log
Airborne
the only difference is charging them. I have done it since I first heard of AGM audio bats and have yet to have a battery fail
Agreene
you can do it, The battiers have different floating voltage putting stress on the agm ( LA pulling voltage from it to keep up with its float).. some take the risk some don't, its always best to go with ALL AGM though
RooTxBeeR
and when a battery get drained like how they are explaining. it may not half the life of the battery but it does diminish it life some On 11/20/2012 at 8:54 PM, AMI CUSTOMS said: Turned mine up today at a light, guy next to me his steering wheel started moving and he looked over at me like I was a magician lol. k3n12ock
I've heard this as well. However, my 1st year of competeing, I had my stock battery up front and a Kinetik 1800 in the rear, voltage was normal, around 14.7 at idle, dropping to mid 12s however when I put the 1800 up front and a different agm in the back, my voltage really sucked. Floating around 14.2 at idle and dropping to low 12s. Weird. So I went back to the stock up front and 1800 in the back and never had that issue again. 05 xB - (2) EVIL 18s - (2) BC3500s - NO WALL Channel 1: http://www.youtube.com/k3n12ock Channel 2: http://www.youtube.com/MrK3n12ock2
Karkov
Yea, because of it slightly draining the AGM i was told there is potential to shorten the life of the AGM but not sure if anyone has proved it not. Most people like the peace of mind i think but for what we pay for these things why chance it? Also, i'm curious if AGM's handle the heat under the hood like lead acid do? 2007 Chevy Tahoe (SOLD) 12 ~ FI Audio X series 10" w/BP option 2 ~ DC Audio 5.0K @0.67 3 ~ DC Audio 5.0K @1.0 2 ~ PPI 3 way sets (not installed yet) 1 ~ RF T400-4, 1 ~ RF T600-2, 1 ~ RF T600-4 4 ~ CT Sounds 5.25" Strato comps (rear fill only) 1 ~ XS Power D4800 1 ~ XS Power D3400 8 ~ XS Power XP3000 160 stock alt, Mechman 370 Elite, 185 DC Power 320+ Sq. SnowDrifter
2 things: AGM is an acid battery. I'm assuming you mean a flooded battery? The reason you don't mix flooded and AGM is because they have different resting voltages. Flooded will rest at 12.7-12.8 when fully charged, and AGMs will rest at 13-13.1v. Since it will always "equalize" to the lowest voltage, that means the Flooded battery(ies) will leach power out of the AGMs. After your car is parked overnight, your AGM batteries will be partially discharged. ~~~~~~~~SAY NO TO PHOTOBUCKET~~~~~~~~ Snow's DD-1 tracks here: https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/167433-snows-dd-1-tracks/ My take on OFC vs CCA: https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/110381-things-that-piss-you-off-in-the-car-audio-world/?do=findComment&comment=2461444
Sutliff
Thanks for all your info, folks ... I just run a D3400, & I am done with it, but there is someone I know who was asking me & I forgot how to explain it to him when it was explained to me a couple months ago.
