oldsoundguy
Hope its ok for me to bring this back up. What makes a good sound quality amp better than the others? Will the amp really make the speakers sound that much better? Sorry for the noob questions but I have always been into loud so just trying to learn something. White Lightning
plain and simple ... GOOD Sound Quality amplifiers are WAY overbuilt. Most people in Sound Quality wouldn't worry about being "efficient". THEY WANT Power, Dynamics, Clarity (low noise floor), and HEADROOM !!! Always remember: in Sound quality - less gain = more headroom. Even with the Sub stages ... Which is nothing you can get from a generic amplifier board. And to be honnest, only about half of the amplifiers listed in this thread fit this bill ... Skullz
Great SQ audio amps have the same things in common, and that they use the best components possible to build an amp from. What is considered military grade today was off the shelf pieces many years ago that all amplifiers were built from, the quality of many of today's amplifiers are lower quality components. EDIT: Power is god mode for any kind of quality vehicle, cause when you play high quality music you need the extra power to cover the lower music level that they are recorded from, and they have an awesome amount of dynamic headroom in the music unlike many normalized music tracks. 01 Ford focus ZX3 Pioneer AVH-X491BHS PPI PC 4800.2 Morel Maximo 6.5" x2
White Lightning
And there's ALOT more to a great Sound Quality system than just well built Amplifiers. Just like the close attention to detail that goes into these amplifiers, ALOT of attention to details need to be integrated into the entire system build as well ... Krakin
This is a great site for learning about amplifiers, but be forewarned some topics require extensive electrical background to be able to understand. http://sound.westhost.com/articles/distortion+fb.htm Krakin's Home Dipole Project http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/186153-krakins-dipole-project-new-reciever-in-rockford-science/#entry2772370 Krakin, are you some sort of mad scientist? I would have replied earlier, but I was measuring the output of my amp with a yardstick . . . What you hear is not the air pressure variation in itself but what has drawn your attention in the two streams of superimposed air pressure variations at your eardrums An acoustic event has dimensions of Time, Tone, Loudness and Space Everyone learns to render the 3-dimensional localization of sound based on the individual shape of their ears, thus no formula can achieve a definite effect for every listener. gckless
I have a zed audio 4ch with burr browns................... It purrrrrrrrsssssss!!!!! RF and sq should ever be in the same sentence. Speaking of "sq" what speaks will you be running?I would love to hear one of these in a SQ vehicle, But nobody competes with them ... Wonder Why ?? I think a lot of that has to do with the Class D placebo effect. Whether something is present or not, people are going to hear something wrong. There was a blind test done a while back, I think on deema. No one mentioned older PG huh? "Clipping" is the biggest forum boner now. It's like witchcraft... it automatically explains just about everything people don't understand. Ryan Christensen
That will be a good amp for the start. Depends how much money you want to spend is the question. But i can tell you with SQ its all about the install. Ive heard some pretty cheap set ups sound way way way better than expensive set ups.
