Amp size?

HHR Ed

Recommended Posts

Just a question.

Who care about the physical size of their amplifiers?

There are micro amplifiers nowadays up to 1500W or so.

Old school amps in the 1000-2000W range were sometimes as much as 44" Long.

Modern 6k-12K amps can be in the 30" range and 11" wide.

So who wants small amps they can hide, and who wants to show off that they have a whopper?

Good ? Edd.

Does a 5k amp that is 11" long also seem legit?

I love big amplifiers. mini ones are great too. but I love the "whoppers"

So much more impressive. So much more to look at and feel.

But I also have unbelievable amounts of room in my build. (for a sedan) If my build was in a BRZ/FRS or something you better believe all my amps are mini's

the big amps cant be wasteful with the space they use though. If Im gonna have a 25 inch long amp its going undoubtedly make power, or F it.

Build's consist of:

2004 Chevy Impala :

Pioneer--------------------- DEH-X8600bs Soundqubed/AQ------ Q4-120

Rockford Fosgate---- Punch-500.4

Soundqubed/AQ----- Q1-3500D.1 Alpine----------------- 6.5's & 6x9's

Subs: TBA All Knukonceptz and SHCA wire and rca's

Home Music Setup

(4) Soundqubed HDS200 15's in two separate 15.5 cubic foot enclosures tuned to 31 hrz --- XM radio hardwire

Updates coming all the time on both builds

Big amps always get the wow factor.

But big amps also need all that space for the components required to safely and reliably make that power, right? WHen I think of tiny powerful amps, I can't help but think about the Brazilians big 3 (Stetsom, Taramps, SD), and not it in a good way.

Wow, it's almost like Ken was reading my mind. I was going to say everything he said, with the addition of this:

If smaller amps could be reliably made, I'd choose them over bigger amps. I'm tight enough on space as it is...

I like them both. Some need big power but don't have the space for it. and on the other had I like the monster amp cause of the sexy ness they bring.

Thats cool. Im way too old to be upset by shit like that. Your name is winston. Your own parents hated you even before you were born.

My penis is bigger than your penis

I'm far from loud and my roof/headliner flaps around like Adam's ass on a windy day. I think it depends more on the structure of the vehicle.

We have been conditioned as consumers to look at small amps with big power with skepticism.

This may be a good thing. There are technical challenges with making reliable power in small packages. Proper cooling and current flow capacity are the biggest challenges.

For me, it depends on the project.

I would love to show off a few 44" long amps in a build. Even if they were only 2kw each.

But in a stealth install, that would be a no go.

For me it's install dependent. My truck has to be within certain measurements or it won't fit. It's so tight right now that i can not gain 1/8 inch either direction and fit.
