Yea.. mechanics are shitty sometimes. Their more than likely trained that way imo. If you cannot find something obviously wrong with it, find a reason make the customer pay for something. After all the time these 2 jerks spend on your car is making the dealer zero money.. but this is just how things are. My transmission has had issues since I bought the car, but the dealer never find anything wrong... wants to charge me fee after fee..

smoking on the other hand, i mean 10-15 years ago i bet this was fairly common. Its not advised no, and shouldnt be done... but their likely "required" to wear safety goggles all the time too, and they dont..

like someone else said, itd be a slap on the wrist. I say dont say anything, and wait for them to fuck up. Them cremate their asses. Although im not sure about this, but dont you have to provide knowledge that "you're being recorded" first? Teleprompters always say this convo is being recorded, is that ok? If not its like a violation of privacy and would be thrown out.. idk

it would still not be good PR wise. The dealer would do everything to avoid that part and maybe thats where youd get ur deal struck. IDK

These days you just gotta become your own damn mechanic, you cant trust anyone.

Wow I would contact the dealerships manager not the service manager and I would also contact ford corporate and let them know. I'm sure they wouldn't be very happy about their dealer trying to rip you off. this could end up being very embarrassing for them if you contacted a local news station as well.

They must have felt dumb as hell once the took the exhaust down and found out the cats were destroyed. I wouldn't even let them work on my car I would make them send it to another ford dealer.

That being said a lot of people's definition of "music" is a clipped 30 hz sine wave with some 80 IQ knuckle head grunting about committing crimes and his genitals.

Again, he doesnt know hes listening. Its totally different. Everyone says things other people arent supposed to hear, things that obviously wouldnt have been said with full knowledge that their being recorded.

Saying how they should charge the customer to do the job right in the first place is b.s tho

They can't start ripping shit apart on warranty terms, they get .3 diag and that's it, doesn't matter if they spend 7 hours on your ride they will likely get .3

Warranty doesn't pay past that. If you want a specific item looked at like "Hey my exhaust is buggered"...they can check fuel trims (which they did miss, there's no way your post cat O2's were flat) look for DTC's, possibly a back pressure test (which is also at hinging on if the O2's come out cleanly). Dealer won't let them go any further.

The term "get the customer pay" just means if you want them to go further it's on your dime. Customer Pay=retail. Techs are at the mercy of the dudes behind the desk.

He doesn't need to give notice that he is being recorded when the mechanic is inside his car...

Plus, I'd be going to get his ass fired and show that clip to ford, "he is full of shit, make him pay for an exhaust inspection and let him drive away?"
