My auto shop teachers in HS called them that. But the difference was my teachers weren't retarded lol They actually gave me a lot of the electrical "jobs" that came in since i knew so much more than the rest in the class. One of my instructors was in his 70's and had this super old 5-600 amp snap on rolling load tester that had to be completely rewired and restored (was his personal item) Had that puppy in tip top shape in two days lol

But you won't get a spark unhooking the negative first. Sure, hooking it back up you might, but not unhooking it. And there are fumes sitting (in the air- is the term "sitting" your hang up?) on top of the battery. That is why you hook up jumper cables in a specific order, to avoid sparks that may ignite the fumes. You do know that lead acid batteries vent right?

The leaking electrons thing is a huge WTF though...

Is there anyone you could report him to or at least address your concerns? Not trying to be a dick but if he is misinforming students that could be bad in the future on a job or even for a interview.
