Cut some pieces for the front and back. Double wall for both. The inside piece will be recessed 3/4" so I can lay and attach the kerfed mdf top piece snugly and securely. The 1/4" piece on top was created as a template from the trunk so it will fit and be pretty snug.

All pieces were cut and routed using a tracing bit so they are perfectly matched. I then needed to make the inner piece exactly 3/4" inset, so took to the router again to cut a 3/8" wide rabbet, then flush trimmed that, then another 3/8" wide rabbet followed by flush trim.

Got to kerfing....kerfing takes a looong time and is noisy and dusty. I think I'm gonna switch to some ply for the next box.

Kerfy goodness!!!

It was a bit trickier than I'd hoped to get this together by myself using glue and clamps...ended up having to temporarily hold the kerf piece, then press up tight and brad nail it, then clamp. Used my travel straps to strap it up while it dried.

very nice, great planning.....and i love the attention to detail you put into this. Good luck with SOTM! Just so everyone know's, we are voting on the system just before he started the box change. Normally it would not be acceptable to nominate a project that isn't finished but since it was in a completed stage just a month ago i think you should be ok to enter.

anyhow, love the build!

Love this build. I have a 2014 Nissan Altima and I'm scratching my head on how to get 3 -10"s and port blowing through the back seat. This gives me a head start for sure. Great build.
