it depends on the artists but generally i like the remastered version better because some artists suck live. But I guess it really depends on the artist because some artists are phenomenal live.

I prefer the studio versions. Most Live cds sound like crap and I've never been to a concert.

Some live albums are really amazing. If mixed well and the live version is high quality, I'd take that any day. Some examples:

Alice in Chains - MTV Unplugged

Pantera - Live 101 Proof

Metallica - S&M

That said, I voted studio versions because there's not a real lot of awesome live albums.

"Clipping" is the biggest forum boner now. It's like witchcraft... it automatically explains just about everything people don't understand.

just like a couple of others posted above, so many factors come in to a good live cd (if you've seen them live before, with who, good times, etc.) compared to a remastered cd. some genres, (I wont throw anything under the bus), I wouldn't even think about purchasing live. however, some of them are even better live than the studio version. (Alice InChains: Jar of Flies)

personal taste wins...of course that was kinda the whole point of the thread I figured!

Hip hop stuff is studio version only, live is awful for them.

But since I mostly listen to rock and metal, Live is where it's at. Quite a few live albums in my collection...
