Subwoofer for 2,000 watts (Build information inside, long post )

Recommended Posts

1st post on the forum and it will be a long one (got to make it count !).

I have a 2005 civic Sedan that I am interested in putting some sub-woofers in the trunk. I plan on doing a monochannel amp that can produce about 2,000 watts clean (haven't fully decided on which one but I have a few in mind). Trunk size isn't a huge concern (i've been told that 5cubic ft should be pretty easy to do ).

Below is what I plan to have in my car or what it already in my car (the parentheses before each line will say what month I plan on putting it in or if its already there).

(May) 270A Singer alternator with added ELD bypass (to bypass the voltage regulator).

(May) XS D5100 http://4xspower.com/shop/d-series/d5100/ or XS D3400 http://4xspower.com/shop/d-series/d3400/ Can't decide between the two. The 5100 will fit into my car no problem. The 3400 can fit with some modifying and is technically more powerful (D5100 is recommended for 2K system and 3400 says 2.5K system). Both are around $250

(May) Big three wiring under the hood

(Currently in car) Ground Zero Uranium 6.5 powered by PPI 900.4 http://www.ground-zero-audio.com/en/products/speaker/gzuc-650sq.html

(Currently in car) This wiring kit http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_68352_T-Spec-V8-0RAK.html is installed and I was using it (with a 4 gauge reducer) to power a sundown E 12 on soundqubed 750.1 before I sold it

(Currently in car) The entire trunk and two front doors are deadened with Q-Mat. The headunit I"m using is Alpine 153BT

I am interested in seeing what sub setup I can do with 2,000 watts at 1 ohm. I was planning on staying with sundown but everything above the SA series is a lowend monster which i've been told isn't ideal if i'm not running dedicated mids (the cutoff will be huge). Below are some setups im looking at (single 15 or dual 12s)

- Soundqubed HDC4 15 http://store.soundsolutionsaudio.com/products/sound-qubed-hdc415-d1-a-15-inch-subwoofer.html

- Dual American Bass XFL 12s http://store.soundsolutionsaudio.com/products/american-bass-xfl-12-inch-1000w-rms-dvc-subwoofer.html

- Ascendant Audio Mayhem 15 http://store.soundsolutionsaudio.com/products/mayhem-15-ascendant-audio-15-2500w-mayhem-series-subwoofer.html

- SSA ZCON 15 (Also looking at XCON) http://store.soundsolutionsaudio.com/products/zcon-15-sound-solutions-audio-15-2250w-zcon-series-subwoofer.html

What are the forums views/suggestions in regards to a good 2,000 watt setup ? I want it to have the potential to get loud but have musical quality as well (For example I don't want two kicker L7s on a box tuned to 40+ HZ).

Looking for a subwoofer setup in a box tuned to 30-34HZ range that will flex my windshield and sound good doing so (Good boom and good sound).

Thank you all (happy first post on SMD Forums !)

Well, from seeing what you're running, and what you have in mind. You seem to have a damn great start compared to most who have their first post here. What you posted for possibilities of a 2k watt substage are all good options. All those companies have been tested and all have done good when used properly. Are you going to be building the enclosure for this set up?

I'll admit, half way through sanding that fiberglass in the rain and cold while I was all itchy I was definitely starting to question why i was doing this haha

Fi Q, or BL, I'd rather go Q in a daily.

Tantric Sounds HD.

DSS Ethos.

b2 audio CC

you have a lot of Choices there.

I've heard all but the BL. Ran the HD, loved it. Fell in love with Fi early on...

Your gonna do 2subs, on 2k,... id do the xfire c7 .. big time on 12's.

Sorry, i just saw 2k and sub.... im sorry.

Yeah my trunk can do 5 cubes no problem so I'm either going to do two 12s or a single 15 (both require about the same amount of space from what i've been told

I'm having a professional do it (local guy near me has been building for almost two decades and the price is affordable)

mayhem

I looked a little more into it and it seems like the real deal (great output will having solid SQ).

Digital designs and Crossfire are what I have used from between 1000wrms and 2000wrms at 1 ohm, dd is a bit more expensive for what you get tho.... also depends what you can get in your area

I'll check out the crossfires

Any more details on this ? (this is my 2nd favorite option right now). How many watts and what box are you using ? How is the sound quality and the output ? (does it get the whole car shaking ?)

Interesting. Will these SQ drivers still give the output im looking for ? (shaking everything in the car aka waking me up in the morning). The B2 CC might be out of my price range but everything else seems good. I'm curious about the DSS Ethos out of these choices (I don't know how you sell a 70 pound SQ subwoofer for $350 brand new, thats nuts !).
