Massivespl Posted December 12, 2015 Report Posted December 12, 2015 I forget the dimensions. We put the dimensions of the space I have in the back. My dad used to compete back in the day. Had an Acura Legend that hit 155 something with 4 15 JBL Gti's in a custom box. 4 10 kicker solo barics walled in a s10. Etc. He's the one who came up with the dimensions using that website. He had it tuned to 32 hz and that's the port area it came up with for the box size to be 7.2cubic feet. He's helping me with the install and the box building. He said we're gonna use gorilla glue and some special wood screws that're expensive. Is there better glue? We built the box without counting bracing into play. Really don't feel like spending a couple more hours into the box when I already got one. Will the box not hold up?? We're building it he said to where noone can steal it if someone breaks into the back. And does bracing effect the box build dimensions or can I just add bracing? Also what is bracing exactly? Lol. Sounds like an awesome father and son time!! Can't wait until my 1.5yr old get old enough to start helping... Make sure to post some pics of the build. c-pillar flat wall 157.11db on music 2 crossfire 8k 4 NSV3 18s 4 crescendo 10s 4 Rockford pro 6.5s Quad excessive amperage 350alts 4 juicebox 3100s
C-Fizzy Posted December 12, 2015 Report Posted December 12, 2015 Look it up. Sorry I'm not gonna hunt down a picture that you can just as easily go look for. And like I said in my last post, it won't take up much space and it will save your box. Take an hour and go look at other members boxes. under construction I hate People with crappy primered cars rolling on hubcaps that are louder then me. u hate c-fizzy?
Triticum Agricolam Posted December 12, 2015 Report Posted December 12, 2015 Show me what you mean by metal thread This is all thread: http://www.zoro.com/value-brand-threaded-rod-zinc-58-11x6-ft-u203000627200/i/G3013613/ Another alternative to all thread is to use hardwood dowels, 1.25" diameter or greater. I prefer dowels to all thread, personally, but both work. You drill a hole through the panels of your box, smear some glue on the dowel and drive them in. Bracing is important. Your box will flex, which robs you of output, and could cause your box to eventually fail if you don't use any. There was just a thread on bracing the other day with good info in it, you can see it here: http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/202148-best-way-to-brace-a-box/ You need to find out from your dad what the dimensions of the port are and let us know. I tried to reverse engineer what the size was from the information you gave us (18" tall, 7.2 cubes at 32 hz, 17" long). I came up with about 67 sq in of port area. That's about half what you should have, and is going to have a seriously detrimental effect on the performance of your box. Your dad may have been on top of his game "back in the day" but the technology has changed quite a bit, and so have box design requirements.
